These lynchings were post slavery. The atrocities "free" Black people suffered after being emancipated are a shadow of what slaves had to endure when Black people were viewed as property.
NEVER FORGET
From 1889 to 1918, more than 2,400 African Americans were hanged or burned at the stake. Many lynching victims were accused of little more than making "boastful remarks," "insulting a white man," or seeking employment "out of place."
Frank Embree was nineteen when he was accused of raping a 14-year-old white girl. Embree was from the state of Missouri, and black men convicted of R*ped of a white woman were sentenced to death by lynching.
Although he maintained that he was innocent, he was whipped over 100 times until he confessed to the crime, saying βhe would own up,β if his captors would hang him or shoot him instead of torturing him. Outnumbered and handcuffed, Embree was slashed on his front and backside. He was paraded to his hanging in the nude. He was then lynched and castrated without a trial on July 22, 1899., and these photographs became postcards shared by mail around the United States." #ThisIsAmerica
I loved #Oppeneheimer. It navigates science, academia, politics, and patriotism and how they interplay when developing world changing tech. It surpassed my expectations.

No water to bathe or even flush toilets. Many restaurants closed. And it is hot. So can't do laundry. Water pressure low when it is on. I can't speak for what the whole town is experiencing just my elderly aunt's house.
I am currently visiting am elderly aunt here. The lack of communication within the town about this situation is dire. Part of the town is suffering an internet/cable/phone outage on top of this.
@MichaelMatteoRo I don't know why but I thought she lived in the space where seat cushions met. So I refused to sit back in couches or in the car. I was also afraid for the safety of my cats.
Some days living in LA can feel like magic. My kid was playing with another kid for a Saturday class she has been in for a year. Struck up a convo with a mom. She is a TV writer. We talked for almost an hour and exchanged info. I left feeling inspired.
Just a reminder that this could be you! Thursday night (5/25) at Lincoln Beer for the #valleywritersmeetup one year birthday. Come on down to mix, mingle and have a good time with other awkward writers! Also win awesome prizes from @davidwappel and @roadmapwriters
