THREAD: To celebrate its 25th anniversary, I'm watching the entire #Pokémon TV series in its original Japanese. It's been on my anime bucket list for ages. I'll be posting my thoughts on every single episode here, so join me for this LONG trip down memory lane! #AniPoké#アニポケ
I don't have the same internet presence I had... gulp... twenty years ago. I can't brag about being "that moderator from the FUNimation Forums" anymore. (Those forums don't exist anymore! *FUNimation* doesn't exist anymore!) So if you're still following me in 2025, I thank you.
Howdy, pals! I haven't tweeted in months. Work and parenthood take up most of my life, but honestly, this platform and its owner have become so insufferable that I've FINALLY decided to look towards bluer skies. If you'd like to follow me there (MagicBox-67), I'd be flattered. 🦋
I won't be deleting my Twitter; I'd still like to keep in touch with my mutuals who haven't made the jump. Also, I don't want my handle stolen by a Nazi, or a bot, or a Nazi-bot. (And I still say the world’s wealthiest man should be the one who leaves, because I was here FIRST.)
@GytKaliba I'm doing as well as can be expected; I hope the same can be said for you! I've still been lurking occasionally, but now that things have "settled" (which is a very generous word to use, given the current world we're living in) I'm going to try to be social semi-regularly again.
@GytKaliba I am *insanely* excited for Yaiba! The TV series looks breathtaking and Viz has even committed to translating the original manga. I just hope they see it through to the end...
(Sorry for the incredibly late reply, BTW.)
@GytKaliba I *need* to make peace with the passage of time because whenever I see Kogoro, even to this day, I get excited about hearing either Akira Kamiya or R. Bruce Elliott... and every time I forget that it's been nearly 15 years since we've last heard either of them in that role.
@GytKaliba As for the weird unexplained bits... For the sake of my sanity, I simply write it off as "Well, the Digital World is a wondrous place that can affect the real world in mysterious ways..." It's what my brain has to do, possibly as a defense mechanism. :P
@GytKaliba Oh yeah, I would never want people to swear off the old hackdub entirely. I want people to like what they like! I just worry because I've already encountered so many "Oh man, I don't know if I can stomach this movie without Smash Mouth..." posts and that attitude discourages me.
@GytKaliba But yeah, I definitely don't fault you for disliking it. It's certainly not a calculated crowd-pleaser like the two Adventure films. I'm very worried the American fanbase will reject it outright and retreat back to only watching the old hackdub. (I wish the two could coexist...)
@GytKaliba Now, as for why Chocomon abducts the passengers on the train? Well... okay, admittedly that *IS* something I would have preferred an explanation for. Presumably, they've been taken to the same place as Taichi, but I'm not sure why and nobody seems particularly worried about them.
@GytKaliba I'm kinda weird in that I'm truly not bothered by the things left unexplained. I'm not really interested in what "infected" Lopmon and, like the owner of a pet that gets rabies, Wallace probably wouldn't have realistically had a chance to find out anyhow. It's never bothered me.
@GytKaliba I'm glad you enjoyed the new dubs! And it's okay if you don't like this particular film. I went from disliking it to adoring it instantly after ditching its old, poorly translated fansub, so who knows? Maybe it'll rub off on you someday! I hope fans give the uncut films a chance.
@Herms98 I think you make a really good case for each of those three eras! (And I definitely agree with your observation that Toriyama's passing pushes us into a new era, regardless of how we divide up DB's history.) Thanks for putting together such a fun year-by-year retrospective!
@TSpicknell Three or so, I believe. I watched the old 80s Care Bears shows growing up in the 90s, and I've been enjoying revisiting them with my child. While re-watching them as an adult, it's been fun to pay more attention to the voice actors themselves.
My four-year-old and I were marathoning episodes of "The Care Bears Family" only a few weeks ago! Of the entire cast, Dan Hennessey was clearly having the most fun. His performance as Brave Heart Lion carries the show, especially in the later seasons when things get really goofy.
Care Bears
My Pet Monster
Beetlejuice
X-Men
Rescue Heroes
And so many more.
Dan Hennessey impacted all of our lives in such a joyous way, whether you knew it or not.
Heartbroken.
