@That_Munter@immortalmanwa@PaladinAshe Except that there are quite a few cited examples of Valve threatening and enforcing these rules beyond just steam keys, such as in the example given.
@luoma_18@tech_gaming Other youtubers have actually covered this exact topic rather well, citing rising salaries and needing high-risk/low-return investments as major reasons for why mid-sized teams have been struggling to start.
Its pretty much just an industry for AAAs and undervalued indies atm
@DefnotComodore@Sanjar11759@Holdenthebuild3@NormBreaker3 I'm not sure if you understand what "grasping it" really means here, since you've argued against a point I haven't been making. The price parity affecting long-term prices is the entire point. Eventually consistent sale price is either a strawman or a comprehension failure.
@DefnotComodore@Sanjar11759@Holdenthebuild3@NormBreaker3 This is incorrect. See sections 62-66 for more info:

Also yes, being against TOS is the entire point we've been making lol. Price parity enforcement removes the strongest competition Steam would face as a platform, and prevents competitors from emerging.
@DefnotComodore@Sanjar11759@Holdenthebuild3@NormBreaker3 Yes, except that this key price parity is also quietly enforced for non-keys too. This pressure has been cited numerous times in legally-submitted documents.
Steam allows for external sales, but not permanently lower prices, and threatens platform expulsion for noncompliance.
@DefnotComodore@Sanjar11759@Holdenthebuild3@NormBreaker3 That cited loss of sales stemming from the market dominance that steam has obtained, and enforces through price parity. While that persists, price competition wont happen, and devs will need to sell on Steam just to reach consumers, and will adjust prices with the 30% cut in mind
@DefnotComodore@Sanjar11759@Holdenthebuild3@NormBreaker3 Some might, but many would stay exclusively because they are complacent, especially given the enforced price parity for would-be competitors.
Dunno where your fractions are coming in, but its not like there hasn't been dev interest in selling for lower given a better store cut.
@Holdenthebuild3@Sanjar11759@DefnotComodore@NormBreaker3 No true Scotsman would consider this a valid argument.
Many people suggest Steam to be a de-facto monopoly, especially a natural one, given its 80% market dominance. Add in the in-progress litigation citing anti-competitive practices and the water gets even more muddy.
@DefnotComodore@Sanjar11759@Holdenthebuild3@NormBreaker3 Steam allegedly does force out competition.
Existing MFN clause accusations are a means of price matching any would-be competitors, stealing the advantage of higher developer cuts away from them. Given two identical priced products, people will just pick the option on Steam.
I genuinely despise Generative AI so much.
Validating the use of AI by saying it won't take any jobs is such a joke. The "it saves time" excuse is stupid because we all know Fortnite has been successful for almost a DECADE without AI.
Art is an expression of the soul that has love & hard work poured into it, Generative AI is not. It's just a machine that copies already existing creations and redesigns them WHILST taking up so many resources that not only impact the environment but real living people. There is no love in Generative AI, it's soulless slop period.
That time that could be spent working on that art also helps artists continue to improve their work and create amazing art as they move forward in life. But the more they rely on AI, the more they're robbing themselves of that said experience. Shame on Epic Games for this.
@SeijoSeiSama@NotGooser Agreed, I would love to see some actual legal progress in the west.
That said, I am still concerned about hoyo's previous job listings featuring art clearly generated by current market AI tools, but I'll reserve further judgement until it actually shows up in the products.
@SeijoSeiSama@NotGooser It's entirely possible that whatever NPC solution they have in works is exclusively based off of prebuilt LLMs, or likely makes use of Nvidia ACE similar to Dead Meat, but ai-assisted workflows effectively need to be generative in nature.
@SeijoSeiSama@NotGooser Agreed, but we recognize in this circumstance that both AI-driven NPCs and AI-assisted art workflows are almost certainly powered by generative ai, not just "ai", yes?
@Ninjago9101 ...
All of you are making this a gacha tribalism "us vs them" thing. You think people are just pretending to dislike ai-generated assets as an excuse to criticize a new competitor in the gacha market, rather than actually having authentic negative feelings towards this crap.
@azurelaffey@Ninjago9101 Speak for yourself, the second any of that slop shows up in something I play, I'll be dropping support for the game and filling out negative feedback surveys, just like with NTE.
Pointless for now though, as I don't play HSR.
