Sitting on the Charlotte-bound @Amtrak Piedmont, stopped on the @NC_By_Train H line just outside of Durham thanks to a stopped @nscorp freight train. When can we nationalize these rail barons? How many times can they be allowed to break the law before facing real consequences?
Wow what a nice little town center, bet I can walk or bike there…
Oh, it’s surrounded by a moat of parking and it’s in the middle of suburbia, never mind.
@1600frogs I’ve been recording my exploration since 2018 with the app Fog Of World. See if you can guess what places I’ve lived in the last 6 years.
(This map excludes flights and travel in other continents.)
@bullcitynerd This is a weird location. On paper, it’s close to the middle of things, but like you said, very little foot traffic. I hadn’t even noticed this coffee shop existed until recently.
@ColumbiaCity_IN The quintessential Bar coffee shop is the Starbucks inside of the Target.
Then you have those Starbucks which are pickup only, they have no seating and nowhere to order. They’re so far Bar they aren’t even on the spectrum - they aren’t even coffee shops.
Coffee shops exist on a spectrum w/ 3 main categories: bar, table, couch. Each has its place. Bar is for quick orders & brief chats. Table is for laptop work & longer conversations. Couch is for chill hangs & casual open mic nights.
Sadly, I have yet to find a coffee shop in the Couch category in Durham. For me, the platonic Couch coffee shop is Brew’ha in little @ColumbiaCity_IN
Warm and welcoming, stocked with old couches, cozy booths, and floor lamps, you could stay there all day.
