While I often speak about my Ukrainian patriotism here on Twitter, I don't often speak about my Canadian patriotism. Now I will. I love Canada my fellow Canadians. I am proud of our great nation.

Our great nation is one of integrity, humility, hope, intelligence and new beginnings. When my grandparents were persecuted by the nazis in World War II, Canada gave us a home. Not only that, it encouraged them and protected their right to maintain their identity. When Ukrainians could not be Ukrainian because of the Soviets, Ukrainians could be proudly be Ukrainian in Canada. My family is like millions of other families who came to Canada for a new prosperous beginning.

Humility is a virtue. We may not be as rich, renowned or powerful as our neighbours to the south - but Canadians continually make a contribution to western democracy. We chose to be humble. We chose to be virtuous. We chose to be better - this is what defines us.

When it matters most, Canada makes it count. During the darkest hour for the US in 2001 after 9/11, we all stood with Americans. Thousands of us went and fought in Afghanistan to support our neighbours to the south. To the loud mouthed MAGAs - remember that next time you call us the 51st state. Remember who you insult when you simp to your russian overlords (who hate you and want to destroy your country).

Our great country is not perfect - we have our problems. Housing problems, economic disasters, political leadership, historical and social issues. We need to do better for our domestic politics. We need to fix our housing problems. We need to step up our contribution to our international responsibilities like NATO. But the one thing I know, we as Canadians will overcome these trials and tribulations together, united as one great nation. Like we always have and like we always will. Because that is who we are a people. Our diversity and our differences makes us stronger as a people.

Our flag symbolizes our Canadian values: freedom, equality, integrity, empathy, and courage. A challenging time lay ahead of us. One of uncertainties. Stay vigilant of the inevitable fifth column and stand for our country. To my fellow Canadians, despite our various differences, let us once again as we always have, unite and lead our nation to a brighter future.

Be proud Canada. Be strong.
