For the past weeks I've been quietly building for the UXMaxx hackathon. Tag: pushing crypto toward its potential.
Went through a bunch of ideas along the way, fintech apps, payroll tools before landing on something else entirely.
Why the switch? Because after sitting through the workshops and actually reading the docs instead of skimming them, I realized the point of this hackathon isn't necessarily to build a brand new product category. It's to take infrastructure that already exists and use it to push web3 toward mass adoption by making the experience feel familiar, not by teaching people something new.
So I built a checkout SDK.
Why checkout, specifically? Because it's the most honest test of whether crypto is actually usable. Nobody abandons a DeFi dashboard out of confusion the way they abandon a cart. If crypto payments can't survive checkout, they can't survive anywhere.
The real problem was never that people don't have money on-chain. It's that it's scattered some USDC on Base, a little ETH on Arbitrum, something random from an old airdrop. Every existing checkout flow makes the buyer solve that themselves before they're even allowed to pay. Bridge. Swap. Switch networks. Most people just leave.
A stablecoin depeg never stays contained.
$8.5M in redemptions forced the wind-down of a DeFi vault.
