Algebra 1 students completed their "Graphing Stories" projects. Groups were assigned a specific type of function(s) to model. Students created posters of their results and presented to the class.
The winning project, "Do a Flip."

Magnolia Algebra 1 students took all four place winners at the Wetzel County Math Field Day competition and one of the alternates.
1st - Aubrey Warder
2nd - Parker Werkau
3rd - Jessa Anderson
4th - Carson Wade
2nd Alt. - Sidney Knight
Algebra 1 students completed an "Exponential Growth and Decay Escape Room". Students had to build, solve, and understand key features of exponential functions to unlock each of the 5 locks and breakout.

As we wrap up our unit on Exponential Functions before Christmas break, we will be competing in various digital "Escape Rooms" or break-out boxes through the BreakoutEDU platform. Here is a look back at our last competition.
#Breakout
As part of our unit on Exponential Functions, Algebra 1 students completed a modified DESMOS activity comparing salary structures (Avi and Benita's Repair Shop), NCAA Tournament Brackets, and growth of savings bonds.
#DESMOS#Exponentials
Algebra 1 students explored exponential functions with my modified "Last Man Standing" introduction activity. Students indirectly built exponential decay functions and modeled graphically the number of survivors after each round.

The past week Algebra 1 students began their journey in exploring systems of equations with a little competition. Students are building their own understanding of "Substitution" and "Elimination" and don't even know it.
College Algebra students completed the DESMOS Activity "Breakout! Polynomial Functions". Students had to solve 9 challenges to reveal the 9 puzzle pieces needed to "breakout".
Jordan Davis (in his hallway theme attire for Homecoming Week) was the first to breakout.
#DESMOS
Homecoming Week:
Tuesday was "Neon Colors" (Freshman had orange)
Thursday was "Dress Like Your Hallway Decoration Theme" (Freshman had Glow in the Dark).
Algebra 1 students explored various functions and their key features using the DESMOS Online Graphing Calculator. Scenarios from tracking the flight of military missiles to tracking the temperature of a cooling cup of hot coffee.

Algebra 1 students have been exploring linear equations in multiple formats (Standard Form and Slope-Intercept) and evaluating key features. Today we did "Super Mario Linear Equations" on DESMOS.
#DESMOS#SuperMarioBros
Algebra 1 students completed a hybrid DESMOS activity with “Match My Line” (slope intercept) and “Marbleslide Challenges”. The competition got intense at times with the challenges as I put the live teacher scoring on the board so students could compete for the “first blue ☑️”.
