It’s a relief that Axel Springer has completed the takeover of the Telegraph. Will the ultra- right opinion pieces and the editorialising headlines continue, or will it go back to its old, more traditional Tory ways?
Despicable bullshit from a morally compromised useful idiot happy to carry water for the Kremlin despite his academic titles. Sachs is a self-serving lying bitch.
✅ Excellent piece by @markhleonard : “Beyond Brexit and Back to Europe”
Ten years on, new polling reveals large majorities on both sides of the Channel now want closer UK-EU ties and re-engagement.
The toxic polarisation of 2016 has given way to regret in Britain (majority now see Brexit as a mistake) and pragmatism in Europe.
The evidence is overwhelming: lagging growth, weaker pound, trade barriers, struggling farmers and businesses. Gen Z is especially clear.
The public has moved on. Politicians should too, by dropping the red lines and delivering real progress.
It's finally time for a giveaway! 🏆️

The catastrophic reality of Brexit has exposed the entire project as a historical scam pushed by charlatans and traitors, on behalf of Moscow.
It has directly undermined European security and weakened the West to the absolute delight of Moscow, Beijing, and Washington DC.
The separation of the United Kingdom from the European continent has made both entities far more vulnerable to external threats. At a time when global stability requires absolute cohesion, this decision introduced needless fragmentation.
The geopolitical rewards of this blunder flow straight to Washington DC, Beijing, and Moscow. Russia and China look at a fractured Europe and see a continent that is much easier to manipulate, exploit, and destabilize because one of its strongest powers is isolated from its neighbors. The US sees the same, especially under Trump.
Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage will forever carry this betrayal as their core legacy. The United Kingdom must eventually rejoin the European Union to reclaim its economic sanity and strategic defense, a move that is becoming increasingly obvious to everyone
Ten years ago today, Britain voted for Brexit.
Do we have evidence that Russia determined the outcome of the referendum? No.
But we do know a few things.
We know that Arron Banks, the biggest financial backer of Brexit, held multiple meetings with Russian diplomats during the referendum campaign. At the same time, discussions were taking place about potential Russian business opportunities, including interests in gold mining ventures.
We know that Russian-linked social media accounts and troll networks were active in the Brexit information space, amplifying divisive narratives around immigration, national identity, and opposition to the European Union.
And we know that Brexit aligned perfectly with the Kremlin's strategic interests: a weaker European Union, a United Kingdom removed from the EU decision-making table, and deeper political divisions across the West.
We also know something else.
The British government never properly investigated the full extent of potential Russian interference when it mattered most.
So, ten years on, the real question is not whether Russia "caused" Brexit.
The real question is why one of the most consequential geopolitical decisions in modern Western history was never thoroughly examined, despite the documented contacts between Brexit's largest donor and Russian officials, and despite the fact that the outcome was celebrated in Moscow as a strategic victory.
A decade later, many questions remain unanswered.
The lines of conflict are clear, Russia and the sociopathic super-rich are waging hybrid war against democracy. The target they most want to disable or destroy is the EU, because it is democracy's strongest bastion.
The EU has many faults, but a broken EU would be a disaster. There would be 28 squabbling countries, trade barriers would rise up, economies would be plunged into recession, social strife would rise, fascism would surge, tensions between nations would grow, and the continent would be ripe to divided into protectorates and puppet states by the USA, Russia and China. We in Europe would discover what it is like to be on the sharp end of imperialism.
@matthewsyed Why do you never mention how much Brexit swelled the state?
-civil service
-having to recreate every major regulatory agency
-Brexit bureaucracy
-zero-gain new trade deals...
Poland and Ukraine have to date worked together to face the tragic past - stand together against a shared danger - and build a flourishing future together inside Europe. Disrupting the Polish-Ukrainian partnership benefits only the aggressor who menaces them both.
At this point I only cheer that Israelis overthrow Netanyahu, Persians overthrow Iran regime, Lebanon overthrow Hezbollah and Palestinians overthrow Hamas. Im still hoping Americans overthrow Trump and Belarus can overthrow Lukaka. Georgians are only ones fighting to overthrow Georgia Nightmare. But not of that can happen as long as russia can continue to prop them all up.
You want peace in Middle East? In Caucasus? Across earth? Defeating russia is how that is achieved. zRussia falls and its proxies all fall. Its ideological WWIII and dreams of world conquest end all wars.
They are source of all of this. We only have one enemy. All humanity has but one enemy. And we only ones trying to save us all. 😟
Greed in a society always overcomes wisdom.
When you get an oligarchic structure they create wealth for themselves, and leave everybody else behind.
The genius of the Madisonian, Jeffersonian design was decentralization.
Protecting every citizen’s individual liberty and giving everyone the right to participate in the capitalism.
When that structure gets damaged it needs a reset.
We’re at our best when government and society are in harmony by feeding people, funding public schools, checking the super greedy so everyone can seek their aspiration.
I’m for unequal outcomes so entrepreneurs should absolutely benefit from what they build.
But this is a rich enough society and a generous enough culture that every person, should get a basic package to get them to the starting block.
Do you agree? 👇🏼
The old Russian myth: the Tsar is good, the boyars are bad. Putin fears returning troops. Putin is under pressure from hard-line media. All nonsense—excuses for a criminal war propagated by paid bots, compliant “think tanks,” and the usefully naïve.
Truth from a woman who moved from Moscow to Ukraine.
"Hello everyone, my name is Ksyusha. I’m a Russian from Moscow who moved to Ukraine during the war. Today, I’m addressing my fellow countrymen.
Nearly 200 drones over Moscow. For the second time in three days, the refinery in Kapotnya is burning. “Lyublino” is burning. All four of the capital’s airports are shut down. This is no coincidence. This is the first serious demonstration that Ukraine is capable of bringing the war deep into Russia. The drones were slow. Next, they’ll be faster. Next, more precise. Ukraine already has its own cruise missiles and ballistic developments. What seemed impossible yesterday is reality today.
While you’re in shock from the sirens and smoke over Moscow, people in Kherson, Sumy, Kharkiv, Odesa, and Kyiv have been living with this for five years already. Destroyed homes, strikes, constant fear.
I know the Moscow where sirens never wailed. Now you’ve felt at least a drop of what they feel every single day.
All the responsibility lies with Vladimir Putin and his regime. With the propagandists who stoke hatred every day. And with the millions of Russians who either support this war or stay silent. Russia started this war. That’s why everything now flying our way is a direct consequence of that choice.
If Putin gives the order to stop the war—it will stop that same day. Zelenskyy has already offered a ceasefire many times. There’s no response. Until that order comes—the strikes on Russia will only intensify. This isn’t revenge. This is forced self-defense.
Ukraine didn’t want this war. It’s simply forced to survive. It’s time to admit it!
The ten-year-anniversary of the Brexit vote highlights a treasonous betrayal of the British public by a class of unserious political opportunists.
Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson built their careers on populist lies, and their enduring legacy is a weakened state that has spent a decade spiraling into global irrelevance.
Leaving the European Union directly compromised Western solidarity, leaving a trail of damage across the United Kingdom and Europe alike. It was a fundamentally reckless move that dismantled regional security architectures, making democratic nations far more vulnerable to external enemies.
This engineered division is precisely why Moscow put its weight behind the campaign. Tearing down the bond between London and Brussels is a textbook victory for autocratic regimes, providing immense satisfaction to Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, and Donald Trump, who all benefit from a fragmented West.
The domestic price for this manufactured sovereignty has been complete institutional paralysis. The United Kingdom managed to maintain just three prime ministers during a nineteen year period before the vote. In the ten years since, the country has degraded into a political circus, chewing through six (soon seven) prime ministers as the state struggles to find its footing.
There is no future in isolation, and the only logical solution is for the United Kingdom to rejoin the European Union. Reversing this failure is essential for global stability. Europe needs British cooperation, and the United Kingdom needs European strength to counter the existential military and societal threats from China and Russia, as well as the constant pressures from the United States
No one should be celebrating what seems certain to be the imminent departure of #Starmer & arrival of our 7th PM in 10 years
Something has gone horribly wrong in British politics. Stability & competence were key parts of what made us a great country.
Poorer quality politicians, the cheapening of political debate (in part social media but also MSM) & rise of so called populism led to #Brexit & the decision to leave #EU just exacerbated the demise of competent Govt, sensible politics & decent politicians.
@yarotrof The Nazi war on Russia was one genocidal, evil empire seeking to annihilate its mirror image. Pre-war Russia helped the Nazis build up their armed forces & they were allies in dismembering Poland. The idea that Germany owes anything to its evil (then & now) former ally is absurd.
Brexit was an act of economic vandalism and a political fantasy - my essay as the 10th anniversary of the EU falls due next week with publication of The Brexit Effect edited by Anthony Seldon with 30 plus contributions from academics, Leavers and other key participants, including moi meme https://t.co/lqSCC2w2pK
