December has been nice. Some lovely moments of connection and discovery.
Overall this has been the most stressful year of my life, but also so full of gratitude and love.
Here's to 2024
September my husband went back to work but I still had a month of leave left. Again, most of my pictures are of her.
I cooked. I kept working on small projects getting the house set up. I spent time with the baby.
I think this was also the month I got my ankles back.
A lot of my family visited for Thanksgiving. I learned to make Italian beef, and Chili.
We hosted D&D for the first time since baby.
Zoe developed cradle cap and eczema, which became infected, but healed in 2 days with medicine.
August was a bubble of the three of us figuring this whole thing out. I have a lot of pictures but they're mostly of her. I feasted on sushi, finally got the hang of breastfeeding. Grandparents visited from Illinois and Mexico. Towards the end of the month the peaches were heaven
In July I started my maternity leave, very pregnant.
Her due date came and went. I painted furniture. I tie dyed onesies. We played a lot of Jedi: Survivor.
A week later, we served her an eviction notice. 33 hours of labor later, she was here.
The grapes ripened.
2023 Month by month!
This year was a big one.
I have surprisingly few photos from January, but we bought a house. Here's the letter from the previous owner.
In June the cherries ripened and we started a raspberry harvest that would last well into October. I had my baby shower. TGO went to the vet because he couldn't stop scratching a scrape on his chin and it became infected.
In May the garden exploded into blossoms. Everything lush and glorious. I turned 33. We did a garage sale. I continued my furniture hunting frenzy. We played more D&D and had an epic diplomatic encounter with one of our recurring Big Baddies.
April was a full month too
I went to Portland for a concert, to get rid of an entire car full of fabric, and to hit Ikea.
Our new couch arrived and somehow exactly matched my thrifted rocking chair.
The garden started to come to life
We had to replace the water heater
March we played D&D in a yurt at Bullard's Beach.
I spent most of the month hunting down furniture in a whirl of nesting fueled by pregnancy hormones and paint fumes.
There were baby goats.
We captured the cat that was living under the house (and fighting with our cats).
February I gave my husband a whisky older than he is. This has been a dream of his for as long as we've been together and he had given up on it at this point. He cry-laughed.
We got the keys to our new house on Feb 14th.
This was an intense month emotionally. Few pictures.
nothing hits harder than when you recommend something to a friend and they…… actually engage with it!!! whether they end up enjoying it or not, just someone taking the time to try something because they want to know more about the things you like…. that’s intimacy babey!!!!!
Confront your past and grieve what needs grieving.
Revel in your present and understand your desires.
Look seriously at what scares you about the future.
Then move into the new year with those spirits on your team, and act accordingly
What do you want? for Christmas
Take some over the next couple of days to listen to your heart and figure out what it actually desires
Every year in December we are asked what we want and most of the people I know don't have an answer. Think about it
It's okay to want things
For bonus points, read A Christmas Carol (or watch the Muppet version, which is the best). Ghosts and psychopomps are the true spirits of Christmas
How did you become who you are? What pieces of your story need witnessing and compassion for you to become who you want to be?
