Given the mood on Twitter tonight (as we all mourn the absence of Twitter as a reliable news source during an unfolding news story), I'm passing along an elegy that I wrote for Twitter late last year.
"Living History #5: An Elegy for Twitter" on Post at https://t.co/x1mfVozq24
Did I, a 36 year old whole ass adult, just order her first pair of heelys solely because they did a collab with Hello Kitty? You bet your ass I did. I love this DGAF era for me.
Watching a documentary about the Hillsong church, and something that has become VERY clear to me is that I experience music VERY differently than a lot of people. Like I kinda knew that but I don’t think I really KNEW it, you know?
Like, I just found an old satellite and all of a sudden woke up and Chet Ubetcha has scooped out my brain, heart, and spine and is asking me for favors? Lol like wtf. This is genius.
Working through the Fallout: New Vegas DLCs for the first time and oh boy each one is more unhinged than the next and this just just some good ass shit.
Stuck in bed with COVID and catching up on some of the movies I’ve been meaning to watch on Netflix for like 10 years in preparation for cancelling and uhhhhhh watching The Duff in the year of our lord 2023 is wiiillldd.
Did I, a 35 year old whole ass adult, impulse buy a Hello Kitty Puffer Jacket off ThredUp the SECOND I saw it last night? You bet your ass I did. Related, if anyone has any tips re: washing a puffer jacket I’d appreciate it.
@fangirldilemma Lol I'm working through it. I just have to teach myself to put some ideas aside. Real world but make it post-apocalypse, but also with magic? But also WWII still happened and nukes and computers still exist? But then also with a fantasy aesthetic? It was just too much all at once
So I'm looking to dip my toes back into fiction writing, but like - I feel like the stuff I want to write doesn't fit anywhere? Like, stuff the same *vibe* that YA fantasy/scifi often has, but with adult characters, and adult language. Is there a name for this kind of stuff?
@fangirldilemma And it doesn't help that largely in my head they've been in the form of something almost akin to AU fanfiction daydreams. I haven't had the brain bandwith for world building or character dev so my brain has been kinda using already established worlds and characters to play with.
@fangirldilemma A few days out and I'm feeling more comfortable just... doing what I want to do. I think a big part of my problem right now is I've been away for so long, I've got a decade and a half worth of half-baked ideas and scenes floating around and I'm trying to do too much all at once.
@fangirldilemma (Also, the specific google question that inspired this tweet was "How much damage does breaking a bottle on someone's head do in real life?")
@nicoledicey I think I gotta brush up my litcrit chops so I can reacquire the language I need to actually describe what I like and want to do writing-wise. My reading process has been SO shallow since I dipped back into fiction and now it's frustrating try to talk about anything basically.
