The J&K High Court’s decision to reinstate the J&K Bank officer who had been unjustly dismissed on alleged “anti-national” grounds without a proper inquiry, is a welcome news.

Since August 2019 scores of employees in J&K have been dismissed in an arbitrary manner on similar grounds, without departmental inquiries or an adequate opportunity to defend themselves. They all deserve due process, a fair hearing and access to justice.

One hopes this judgment will pave the way for justice in other such cases as well.

For years, political discourse in Kashmir has been reduced to one convenient label. If PDP is called BJP, NC is called BJP, Altaf Bukhari is called BJP, Sajad Lone is called BJP, Er. Rashid is called BJP, and now even Jamaat is labelled BJP—where does this end?

The BJP forms the Govt at the Centre. Political parties may engage with the Central Govt on governance, administration or constitutional matters. Dialogue with the Govt of India does not automatically erase a party's identity or prove it is acting on behalf of another party. 5/6
