The government made a number of highly important decisions at yesterday’s cabinet meeting:
- We have ordered an immediate investigation into the ventilators procured for hundreds of billions of forints during the coronavirus pandemic.
- The government is abolishing the current teacher evaluation system.
- We will review the Budapest–Belgrade railway project.
- Next week, we will submit a legislative package required to secure the release of the 6,000 billion forints in EU funding to which Hungary is entitled.
- We are taking action against visual pollution. We will significantly tighten the rules governing the placement of posters and advertisements in public spaces and on buildings.
- We will review the rules on party financing.
- We will review the regulations governing the employment of third-country guest workers. We have ordered an immediate ban in certain sectors.
- We will review the operations of the Hungarian Chamber of Agriculture.
- We will review the waste management concession, introduce a logging moratorium in protected areas, and reform the permitting process for investments in the battery industry.
We are making progress.
Based on TISZA’s proposal, political posters that incite hatred will be banned, and political advertisements will no longer be permitted on utility poles.
Based on TISZA’s proposal, political posters that incite hatred will be banned, and political advertisements will no longer be permitted on utility poles.
Since 1990, no single party has ever had as much support as TISZA does today.
We feel the weight of this responsibility.
We will continue to do our duty.
I welcomed the Prime Minister of Ireland, @MichealMartinTD, for bilateral talks in Budapest.
History and our shared love of freedom connect the Hungarian and Irish peoples. I expressed my gratitude to Ireland for providing refuge to the many Hungarians who fled the country after the 1956 Revolution, and I was pleased to note that the Hungarian community remains an active part of Irish society today.
We reviewed the priorities of the upcoming Irish EU Presidency, as well as the key issues that will shape the future of the European Union. Hungary supports strengthening competitiveness and preserving cohesion and the Common Agricultural Policy, and believes in European cooperation based on dialogue and compromise.
I informed the Prime Minister about the agreement reached on the EU funds due to Hungary, as well as the progress achieved regarding the rights of the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia.
I thank Micheál Martin for the constructive discussion and wish him every success with the Irish EU Presidency and in his future work.
Long live Hungarian–Irish friendship!
Curiously, shortly after the elections, the police and the prosecutor’s office were suddenly able to move forward with a nearly two-billion-forint corruption case that had been dragging on for ten years.
Isten áldjon minden magyart a nemzeti összetartozás napján! Örülök, hogy a jövőben a kárpátaljai honfitársaink is visszanyerik a nyelvi, oktatási, kulturális és politikai jogaikat.
I have arrived in Paris.
This morning, I laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I am now on my way to meet the President of the Senate.
At 1 PM, I will meet French President @EmmanuelMacron at the Élysée Palace, and later I will also hold talks with the President of the National Assembly.
In just three weeks, we have achieved what Viktor Orbán and his government failed to achieve in ten years.
We have reached a comprehensive agreement with Ukraine on expanding the linguistic, educational, cultural, and political rights of the more than 100,000 members of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia.
The agreement is the result of several weeks of intensive techical-level negotiations between Hungary and Ukraine, in which political and religious organisations representing the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia also participated.
The Ukrainian government has committed to incorporating the agreed measures into its legal system in the near future. As a result, the Hungarian minority will enjoy significantly broader educational, cultural, linguistic, and political rights than before.
These commitments will also be included in Ukraine’s action plan submitted to the European Union.
If this happens, the Hungarian government will support the opening of Ukraine’s first accession cluster.
Hungary continues to oppose accelerated EU accession. If Ukraine succeeds in closing all 33 accession chapters within the next 10 to 15 years, Hungary will support Ukraine’s accession, subject to a legally binding referendum.
Following my meeting with the German Chancellor, today I held forward-looking and promising talks with the President of France on bilateral and European issues.
We agreed to renew the Hungarian–French strategic partnership ahead of the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.
I invited President @EmmanuelMacron, as well as the Presidents of the French Senate and National Assembly, to Budapest for the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, and I was pleased to accept an invitation to attend France’s national day celebrations on 14 July in Paris.
In just a few weeks, we have succeeded in strengthening Hungary’s position in Central Europe, as well as in Berlin, Paris, and Brussels.
Viktor Orbán personally exercised direct control over law enforcement and intelligence agencies. He could decide whether raids would take place or investigations would be delayed.
He must take responsibility.
I have arrived in Berlin for bilateral talks with Chancellor @bundeskanzler.
Germany is Hungary’s most important economic partner and one of our closest allies in the European Union.
Later today, I will travel to Paris to meet with President @EmmanuelMacron.
Off to Berlin and Paris! Today I’m holding bilateral talks with German Chancellor @_FriedrichMerz, tomorrow with French President @EmmanuelMacron.
On Thursday, I’ll welcome the Irish Prime Minister to Budapest.
