After 4 days in Somalia🇸🇴, I leave with a sense of hope.

Development is how lasting peace & resilience are built.

As a Gender Specialist @UNDPSomalia:
Turning displacement into opportunity starts with women. We place them at the center of durable solutions unlocking housing, livelihoods, and leadership for resilient, dignified recovery in #Puntland and beyond.

In 🇸🇴Somalia's Puntland state, I met communities rebuilding their lives after repeated displacement.
They need durable solutions: homes, livelihoods & the chance to live with dignity.
A reminder that humanitarian response must go hand in hand with #EarlyRecovery & development.
⚡️EXCLUSIVE: #UN Assistant Secretary-General @shokonoda, who also leads the @UNDP Crisis Bureau, called for locally led efforts to help #Somalia move beyond humanitarian aid toward sustainable development while strengthening resilience and restoring dignity. Speaking at a media briefing hosted by @UNDPSomalia in #Mogadishu on Monday, she reaffirmed #UNDP’s firm commitment to support the #Somali people on their path to stability, self-reliance, and long-term progress.

Look forward to engaging with govt, development partners, communities & UN colleagues as we move forward on the pathway towards recovery, development & peace.
@UNDPSomalia
An energizing day in Bossaso, Puntland🇸🇴.
Interacted with women who were displaced a few times & now finally settled with homes, jobs & basic services.
Their message stayed with me: "We don’t need goods, we need land and work."
These are the foundations for peace & stability.
Advancing durable solutions through inclusive, locally led action.
Strong local governance is key to addressing displacement and building sustainable peace for women and men alike.

Women's leadership and protection are not temporary initiatives. They should be consistently integrated into institutions and maintained over time.
