Fact: He traveled there for his cooking show & when they tried to block this one episode, he said he would pull his entire show from the network & this was the first time the world ever saw behind the walls in Gaza 2013
Went to buy books. Bill came to PKR 30k. No. of books? 6. There is no lack of want for books or reading, the economics of life in PK makes it difficult as a consumer and as a publisher (have done extensive lamenting on this). Reading is a necessity, it should not be a luxury.
Zia's Sharia-inspired Hudood Ordinance made it mandatory for w0men to produce four witnesses to prove that they were r@pe victims and their accusations weren't false. Upon failure, they themselves were punished for adultery and fornication instead. A twelve-year-old blind girl, a mere child by the name of Safia Bibi, was r@ped by her employer in 1982.
Since she couldn't identify the r@pist because of her blindness or produce four witnesses, she was awarded three years of imprisonment and flogging. She remained in prison for a year and a half but due to protests from secular-minded people as well as international pressure, the Federal Shariat Court, also created by Zia ul Haq, decided to take the matter under its belt.
Asma Jahangir, a much-hated lawyer among non-democratic and neo-conservative forces, appeared in the appeal and got her sentence overturned on technical grounds. However, she was already flogged fifteen times and the criminal wasn't punished because he couldn't be identified by the blind child and four "credible witnesses".
During Zia's regime, hundreds, if not thousands, of w0men were punished for adultery and fornication, who were actually r@pe victims, while non-democratic forces and lovers of theocracy portrayed it as a success of one public hanging and Sharia by claiming that "no w0man was r@ped".
In reality, the r@pes were being treated as adultery while the criminals roamed freely as they didn't commit crimes in the presence of four honest individuals whose testimonies could also be beyond doubt. Musharraf amended some of these laws in 2006 which released hundreds of w0men rotting in prison for years.
PS: Notice how Jinnah's picture is set aside while there's an Islamic painting on top containing the phrase "sovereignty belongs to Allah". Such cheap tactics and mind games were used to blackmail people religiously and undermine Jinnah's secularism to push Sharia Law.
PS2: Zia was a follower of Maulana Maududi of Jamaat i Islami who was against Pakistan's creation along with most other ulema.
unfulfilled dreams hit so much harder once you have a kid. now you have to factor in a tiny human into everything and it makes things 10x more complicated....and well impossible
