The United Nations in Libya strongly condemns the repeated incidents that occurred this morning on the premises of the service centre managed by one of the UN agencies in Tripoli. The UN acknowledges the actions taken by relevant authorities to respond to the incidents and investigate the circumstances of the deeply aggressive acts against staff and the people accessing humanitarian services of the centre. Such incidents must not be repeated.

We call for reliance on verified information to guide public discourse and remain committed to engaging constructively and working closely with Libyan authorities and communities.

The event, titled “Climate-Resilient Cities and Communities in the Caspian Region: Mobilizing Climate Finance for Urban Adaptation,” took place on 19 May and was jointly organized by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The event was opened by Ms. Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director of UN-Habitat; Ms. Elizabeth Maruma Mrema, Deputy Executive Director of UNEP; and Aghakarim Samadzadeh, First Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
