Do you remember him? His nickname is Otto I think.

I don’t know him personally. But I remember his case. He’s a well educated man, from UK or Australia, was going somewhere on a motorcycle in Hulhumale’ when an out of control thug hit him, disabled him for life. He has a wife and a kid too.

Will he ever get his previous life back?

Did he get any compensation for this?

Did he get justice?

My advice is, don’t trust the Police would do any proper road policing. Don’t trust other road users would follow rules, especially when the gang population is so high. In a failed state like Maldives, you’ll have to protect you and your own family. That includes taking extraordinary care when you’re walking on the road and riding/driving vehicles. Use the mirror properly. Don’t wear headphones when you’re on the street cause you never know which thug is going to run you over from behind so if you’re not wearing headphones you would at least hear vehicles coming and give you may be a second or two to run for your life. Don’t stop on a side of the road even to send a text or answer a call, EVEN IF IT LEGAL. Wear helmet, especially in Hulhumale and on the bridge. Nobody’s going to protect you, remember that. Once you’re disabled, that’s it for you. You won’t get any compensation or justice in Maldives. You’ll realise this when this happens to you or someone you love.
