Our Suffering, Their Silence: A Hard Truth About Arewa Elites
Now I understand why some Kannywood celebrities and Arewa elites refuse to speak up for the same Arewa people. They choose silence rather than risk their political relationships and personal interests.
It’s shocking to see people who once benefited from Captain Jamil’s humility and generosity on this platform now turn around to insult him, his father, and his family simply because he spoke out and called on the Office of the NSA. He didn’t do it out of fear of being kidnapped or harmed, he did it because he has listened to the cries of ordinary people and cares about the humanity and struggles we are facing as a nation.
What is even more disappointing is that some of the same PR dogs who are directly or indirectly affected by insecurity, and could easily become victims themselves, are the ones attacking him. Instead of appreciating someone who spoke out, they choose to insult and discredit him.
Perhaps we should stop expecting Northern celebrities to speak about our suffering. Maybe they remain silent because they fear that the same people they criticize today are the ones who could threaten their careers or livelihoods tomorrow. They dine with these powerful figures, and speaking out might cost them their jobs and influence while the common people don’t even appreciate or respect them for their bravery.
It’s a sad reality, that we must all acknowledge.
