@miramanga I do think it is the burden of a game company to balance, not because of competitive only, but because it's hard to retain customers when people feel like what they may have purchased was a bad investment from a gameplay perspective.
@miramanga A little of both. Players want their investment in time and money pay off, but also players struggle to understand that true balance means a shift more towards the intangibles of a game and that requires effort. And sometimes players don't like effort and would rather complain.

@arbitorian Anytime there is choice. The ability to make good decisions or bad decisions, this is inherently a skill exercise. The argument is how much a game allows for skill impression. Even if you say 40k is low express of skill, it is still there and it is still something people pursue.
@arbitorian I reject that premise though. I'm not saying list isn't significant, it certainly is. But a list doesn't play itself, and understanding how to play the mission, having plans for the mission, how to bait or react with your opponent, is very much choice and skill.
@arbitorian As someone who plays competitively a lot, that may have been try in the past, but I strongly disagree in the current environment. The last winner of LVO was getting tabled in mirror matches while playing position and mission. That is a form of skill.
@arbitorian To dismiss it entirely is roughly the equivalent of dismissing high quality paint jobs, because it comes essentially the same place as "painting little plastic men is silly". It dismisses the whole concept and why one would find enjoyment from "getting good". /end
@arbitorian So because this is a skill. We should be treating it like any other skull. You let people get what enjoyment they want out of it, and you let them make up their mind on how much effort they want to put into it. 8/
