Their thinking was compelling. So much so, @your__tempo became one of the top apps that users would point to when they requested new ideas from ours — and we took those ideas seriously. We have some experiments in the works, if you want to try them out, let us know.

Creating an email client is extremely hard. A great one, even harder. Cheers to the folks at Tempo for pioneering some new thinking in email clients.

Picture it:

The year is 2012.

We were working on a Mac app to launch towards the end of the year. (Later decided to focus on iOS first.)

It was just before we rebranded with the sails.

Here was our never before seen OS X app icon:

We’ve learned a lot from ten years of building email clients, all of which Five builds on. With everything learned, we hope to make Mail Pilot 5 simply great.

Mail Pilot 4 was an ambitious project that explored an entirely new kind of design and interaction with email, and these experiments have more natural conclusions in Five.
