l'Il provide a detailed explanation. When a Navajo child is born, TRADITIONAL Navajo belief is that child is still among the Holy People (Diyin Diné) until their first laugh. The child laughter signifies the child's declaration that they will remain among their relatives who walk upon the earth.
The laughter of a NAVAJO child is culturally viewed as the child's expression of their sovereignty as a living being and the choice
THEY have made to remain among their people.
There are also specific teachings around the soft bones of a baby's skull and their connection to the Holy People. Traditional Navajo also have teachings around the cradle boards we use for our infants. I won't go into detail about either of those 2 topics because it's not easy to explain their significance and their value in TRADITIONAL Navajo culture.
