Maine is moving in the right direction! LD 956 just passed both chambers and is going to the gov. It will require healthcare providers to collect sexual orientation and gender identity data alongside other demographics. Maine will be the first state to require this. #mepolitics
We're thrilled that LD 535 is supported by major medical groups!
Gender Affirming Care is evidence-based, safe, and appropriate!

Our top priority bill this year, LD 535, creates a path for 16 and 17 year old trans youth to access hormones without parental consent.
Despite the political critique of gender affirming care across the country, medical consensus shows that this care is necessary and appropriate
That's why we are thrilled to have the public support of the Maine Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Maine Medical Association, and the National Association of Social Workers- Maine Chapter.
Our biggest bill this year, LD 535 had a public hearing. If passed, this bill creates a path where 16 and 17 years olds can access gender affirming hormones without parental consent.
Maine already recognizes may areas of healthcare where minors can consent on their own. Gender affirming care should join that list, alongside mental healthcare, drug treatment, contraception and STI treatment, and abortion care.
