@MissEm3rald It’s so embarrassing that this person thinks we’re not “getting the point” lmao, like they think the point they were making was deep and not the most surface run of the mill centrist bullshit argument we hear every damn day in this society lmao
@jesshuntley@baddestmamajama “Abusers groom their character witnesses” this is such a clever way to explain something I already knew but didn’t quite know to articulate like that
To summarise this week: Luis Rubiales will not leave, his mother is willing to starve herself so that he does not leave and the Spanish FA are open to entirely self-destructing Spanish football to prevent him from leaving. Its 11am on Monday morning.
@HITCSevens 1/2 there is even a more derogatory word for some of those obsessed female fans - “groupies”. But w/ sports fandom it’s seen as perfectly respectable; even mythical and honorable, especially bc it’s still a male dominated sphere. But the overidentifying w/ a product is the same
@HITCSevens I always think about this re: the parasocial relationships between fans&athletes that are valorized&normalized whereas w/ teen girls we make fun of it when they do it with musicians. Both are consumers heaping adulation onto strangers&making them their identity 1/2
This is horrifying and evil. A blatant display of victim blaming, misogyny, patriarchal violence and the protection of abusers. So shameless yet unsurprising since the globe revolves around what I just mentioned ^
