Let one more truth destroy a myth…

We grew up hearing that Nehru created AIIMS. Even today, Congress spokespersons frequently claim credit for it in TV debates and on social media.

But do we remember the woman who actually drove this vision forward?

Do you recognize this 👇remarkable lady?

Rajkumari Amrit Kaur …,, princess of the Kapurthala royal family and independent India’s first Health Minister.

The story of AIIMS cannot be told without acknowledging her extraordinary contribution.

As Health Minister, Amrit Kaur championed the idea of creating a world-class institution for postgraduate medical education and research in India. She personally worked to mobilize international support and resources for the project.

The proposal was supported by the recommendations of the 1946 Bhore Committee,

Amrita brought the proposal of AIIMS to Nehru ….a man without vision found it impossible. Gandhi was determined to give 55 crore rupees to Pakistan when this project itself needed crores of rupees to become a reality.

Imagine the priorities of Nehru government…. Giving away 1.6 million U.S. dollars to Pakistan when our health minister Rajkumari Amrit Kaur was left to  arrange money from abroad as donations.  

Amrit Kaur was determined to make it happen. As we say that charity begins at home …. She donated her huge Shimla property for the cause. The Government of New Zealand provided a million dollar generous grant under the Colombo Plan, which helped make the foundation of AIIMS possible in 1952. AIIMS itself was formally established in 1956 through an Act of Parliament.

And there is documentary evidence of Amrit Kaur’s personal role: she eloquently spoke and introduced the AIIMS Bill in Parliament in February 1956.

She was not merely a name attached to the project. She was the Health Minister who pushed the vision through government and Parliament.

Her contribution to public health went far beyond AIIMS. She helped build institutions and initiatives in areas including child welfare and tuberculosis control, and she became the first woman to preside over the World Health Assembly in 1950. WHO’s own historical records identify her as President of the Third World Health Assembly.

So perhaps the more accurate history is this:

AIIMS was not the creation of Nehru It was the product of Rajkumari Amrit Kaur ,s larger vision who was the most important champion and driving forces.

She deserves to be remembered for her contribution.

History should give credit where credit is due.

Moral of the Story … AIIMS is Amrita Kaur’s legacy..  but Habitual Credit चोर Congress  has glued the “Made By Nehru “ sticker on it… and shamelessly have been repeating the lies …Non-Stop.  

Let’s spread the word and Stop this Lie/Myth FOREVER. 🙏🙏

@kumariika Correct. They'll learn your language but celebrate their own festival. Even the Andhra people are like that. Our odiyas are forgetting our traditional festivals and following panjabi gujarati etc. Our 'Mangana' has been replaced by Mehndi.
