In the clip, the man is reportedly asked where he is from and responds that he is Pakistani. The Emirati then questions why he is wearing traditional Emirati attire despite not being Arab and allegedly tells him to remove it. The video has been widely shared alongside claims that the local accused the man of misrepresenting Emirati identity and referred to him as a "scammer." However, there is no verified evidence that the confrontation was official or that any law was broken by the individual in the video.
What is known is that the UAE recently introduced stricter rules restricting the use of Emirati national dress and dialect in advertisements, promotional content, and certain media productions to Emirati citizens, citing concerns about protecting cultural identity and preventing misuse of traditional symbols.
Officials clarified that the policy is aimed at commercial representation rather than ordinary day-to-day clothing choices by residents. As a result, many social media users have linked the viral clip to the broader debate over cultural identity, immigration, and the use of national symbols in the UAE, although the exact circumstances of the incident remain unverified.
