See, this is exactly what I'm talking about. Their version of Lestat is essentially just a brute, and they're deeply attached to a reading where Louis is permanently reduced to a victim.

That's why you get so many "they defanged Lestat" takes. To them, Lestat's defining trait is assaulting and beating Louis. When the show leans into the actual complexity of their relationship—and follows the broader canon instead of that one-dimensional interpretation—they see it as the character being watered down.

I think that's why they're so frustrated with the direction the show has taken. It doesn't validate the fanon version of these characters they've become attached to.
