Tremendous @BlueRoseCode Saturday evening at Perth Theatre with songs old and new, Ross’s unique sincere delivery and the most talented group in musical unison, a memorable experience. Looking forward to the new album.
On #WorldEnvironmentDay, we're proud to announce MAKAR is one of four founding partners of #NatureProsperity. This opens a scalable pathway for institutional capital to deliver stable returns from nature-based solutions to Scotland's housing, biodiversity and climate crises.
Housing rural workers and families is one of the most pressing challenges facing Scotland right now. The key to building a thriving rural economy will be delivering sustainable homes to support the people who power it. Great to meet so many at the @ScotLandEstates Conference.
@WoodlandCrofts Thanks Jamie, that scoping study undertaken by MAKAR commissioned under duress by North Ayrshire Council identified 20 sites within the management the then FCS, publicly owned land, suitable for responding to Arran’s affordable housing crisis. Shelved by NAC but still relevant
@_JamieMcIntyre Hoping to be a wee but more ambitious and film the various key stages in order to encourage others, will keep in touch as it unfolds. BW to you and your family, perhaps we might meet in 26, you are always welcome.
We have assembled a prototype affordable home... in JUST ONE WEEK!
What if we could rapidly assemble healthy and affordable homes that people actually want to live in, using Scottish timber, with no risk of damp or mould?
Here's how we did it!🏡
@stevenniels1@LesleyRiddoch@MAKARhomes Steve, this single home was conceived as a terrace of four which given Passivhaus form- factor principles gets such a configuration to PH performance. The single unit would be a PH near miss, but still v good.
Get your concerns about the usual head winds, onward however
@_JamieMcIntyre@CHTScotland Thanks Jamie, this one was a lesson in how a modest family home could grow with the arrival of bairns, delivered by resourceful locals from local trees. All MAKAR homes were team inspired, this one v much Scott Reid, I can’t take the credit, however agree with your sentiment
Chuffed to see @MAKARhomes new prototype affordable home built by its Inverness workshop in 2 weeks flat to show what's possible. Wood from nearby forest, assembly & workforce local. Net zero, eco friendly & heating costs £5/week. So why the big procurement/paperwork delays?
@_JamieMcIntyre@forest_policy@BlackIslePMD Thanks for sharing Jamie. Reading this I couldn’t help thinking this is the way many European, particularly German cities actually are, with forests right into the heart of the urban and trams not cars. We definitely have the timber offsite technology available to deliver
Robin Mcalpine's piece in The National is a major shift.
Commonweal are using the same extraction data we spotted months ago and detailed on Substack.
It shows Scotland as a high earning economy, on a par with the Euro Zone, but with enormous amounts of wealth extracted, more than sub-Saharan Africa
However Mcalpine frames it as "bad management" under devolution, not structural colonisation.
That's a halfway point: people can now see the drain but aren't yet naming its cause.
Once someone joins these two dots:
extraction = colonial structure
The whole facade collapses.
