@brithume Take the mess, launder it through military doctrine language “ends, ways, and means,” “simultaneous pressure,” “multiple dilemmas” and it reads like Clausewitz when it started as a presidential impulse. @SpencerGuard

"As a for-profit company, Amtrak fails...As a government agency, created half a century ago to carry out a public purpose recognized in law and in Supreme Court rulings, it is a spectacular success worth celebrating, supporting, and building up."

There’s a huge double standard when it comes to funding public transit vs funding highways. It plays out in various ways in how society looks at the costs of building & operating transit vs highways. The result is massive under-investment in transit. 🧵:
Obviously, there’s a lack of company-wide customer service culture that starts at the stop with the CEO and Board, along with lack of oversight by Congress and the DOT.
There are tons of tremendous individual employees at Amtrak that do above & beyond. And some that don’t.
🚆 Big news! Big Sky Passenger Rail Authority & Mountain Line are partnering to advance sustainable, connected transit solutions. Together, we’re building a better future for passenger rail. 🌿
