A 54-year-old Limpopo Police Sergeant stationed in Lebowakgomo has been arrested and charged with fraud and theft after allegedly using stolen state fleet cards to fuel private vehicles in exchange for cash.

According to Limpopo police, the officer allegedly stole fleet cards from the office and colluded with three petrol attendants at a local filling station.

Customers would pay cash to fill their private vehicles, after which the Sergeant allegedly used the state fleet cards to settle the transactions before sharing the proceeds with the attendants.

Two people lost their lives and five others were injured following a head-on collision between a bakery truck and a sedan on the P277/1 road in Sibasa on Saturday morning.

The crash occurred between the Astron (Caltex) Garage and Elegant Garage near the City to City bus rank. According to preliminary reports, reckless and negligent driving may have contributed to the accident.

The driver and another occupant of the bakery truck sustained serious injuries, while three passengers in the sedan suffered minor injuries. Two occupants of the sedan were declared dead at the scene.

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety confirmed that the road was temporarily closed between the two traffic lights, with motorists diverted to alternative routes.

Traffic law enforcement officers, SAPS, and Emergency Medical Services remain on site managing the scene and assisting affected road users.

Authorities have urged motorists to obey traffic laws and prioritise road safety to prevent further tragedies.

Visitors at a private game reserve in Ga-Sekororo were left stunned after a large African rock python was spotted slithering across a window.

In a video circulating on social media, the massive snake can be seen stretching its body across the glass surface while moving along the window frame, leaving onlookers both shocked and fascinated.

African rock pythons are among the largest snake species found in Africa and are commonly found in bushveld and wilderness areas.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has warned against the illegal handling and misuse of firearms following a social media video showing women allegedly cocking firearms inside a house.

In a statement issued on Thursday, SAPS said the individuals in the video appear not to be authorised or properly trained to handle firearms, describing such behaviour as dangerous and irresponsible.

Police reminded the public that only individuals with valid firearm licences or permits may legally handle firearms under the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000.

Firearm owners can also face criminal charges if they allow unlicensed persons access to their weapons.

SAPS further cautioned that toy guns, imitation firearms, and blank guns may also lead to legal consequences if used to intimidate or create fear.

The public is urged to report illegal firearm possession or reckless handling to the nearest police station or anonymously via Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

The Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality, Limpopo, has announced that three new speed trap cameras will be placed on the N1 and R101. The cameras are set to be placed between Kranskop and Nyl Plaza.

The Municipality says the new speed traps form part of the Municipality’s ongoing efforts to improve road safety and reduce road traffic incidents on both roads.

During recent festive seasons, a few motorists were arrested for excessive speeding, and hundreds of fines were issued within the Modimolle-Mookgophong Municipality jurisdiction.

Modimolle-Mookgophong Mayor Anna Mboweni said the new speed traps will play a big role in ensuring that motorists adhere to road rules.

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has introduced a Motor Vehicle Licence [MVL] Debt Relief Programme to assist vehicle owners who are experiencing difficulties in settling outstanding motor vehicle licence fees.

Vehicle owners who have been licensing their vehicles in Limpopo for a minimum period of three years and who owe R5,000 or more [individuals] or R10,000 or more [companies] may qualify for debt relief.

Motorists who participate in the MVL Debt Relief Programme will benefit as follows:

Two suspects between the ages of 30 and 51 were arrested for issuing learner's and driver's licenses without following proper procedures in return for gratification at the Lephalale Testing Station, Limpopo.

This follows an operation conducted by Polokwane-based Hawks' Serious Corruption Investigation [SCI] and the National Road Traffic Management Cooperation [RTMC] following complaints about the officials who.

Authorities went to the examination room at the Lephalale Test Station and found eight learners writing the learner's driver's license test, whereas ten learners completed the attendance register.

Preliminary investigations revealed that two outstanding learners appearing on the list were declared competent, although they didn't write such tests.

Warrants to arrest the suspects were issued, and a manhunt was conducted, resulting in the apprehension of both suspects in Cape Town on Monday, 26 January 2026.

They are scheduled to appear in the Lephalale Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, 28 January 2026 to face charges of fraud and corruption.

Police in Limpopo are requesting assistance from the public to locate a missing man, Bapela Tshegofatso Maesela Jimmy [21], residing in Zone Q, Lebowakgomo.

According to the victim’s mother, her son left home after an argument on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, at about 09:00. He never returned home.

She further reported that his cellphone has been switched off since then.

Efforts to locate him through relatives and friends have been unsuccessful. Police have opened a missing person case, for further investigations.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of the missing person may contact the investigating officer, Constable Tshanduko Khorommbi, on 082 414 2698.

Traffic officers intercepted a 7-seater minibus that was found to be grossly overloaded, transporting 22 learners in the Ladanna area in Polokwane, Limpopo on Wednesday morning.

Upon noticing traffic enforcement, the driver reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, leaving the learners unattended. At the time of the incident, the learners were on their way to school.

Two police officers attached to Hlogotlou SAPS in the Sekhukhune District, Limpopo, have been arrested on charges of corruption.

In the first incident, a detective sergeant handling an assault GBH case allegedly instructed the suspect to pay R1,500 to the victim so the case could be withdrawn.

The payment was made via eWallet using the victim’s cellphone number. The officer allegedly took the victim’s phone, withdrew the money, handed R700 to the victim, and kept R800 for himself.

The matter was reported and referred to the Provincial Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit.

In a separate incident, the same detective sergeant, together with a constable, is accused of soliciting a bribe after discovering dagga during a search at a suspect’s home on 19 November 2024.

Instead of making an arrest, the officers allegedly demanded R2,500, took R1,000 from the suspect, and arranged to return for the remaining R1,500. They were intercepted and arrested by security officers upon their return.

The two officers are expected to appear before the Nebo Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 19 January 2026, facing charges of corruption and defeating the ends of justice.
