Yesterday, we celebrated Canada — the security, prosperity, and opportunity that Canadians have built together. Today, we’re building it stronger.
The major projects we’re building will unleash more than $200 billion in investment.
Canada faces a real opportunity to become an energy superpower. We are not waiting.
We are building our strength at home and diversifying our partnerships abroad. To create good jobs and lasting prosperity — to build Canada strong for all.
Our new Mia-yaltwa Ha’lidzogm hoon National Marine Conservation Area Reserve, in partnership with British Columbia and Wuikinuxv, Nuxalk, Kitasoo Xai’xais, Heiltsuk, Gitxaała, and Gitga’at Nations, will protect thousands of kilometres of coastal water — conserving biodiversity, and supporting coastal communities for generations to come.
Canada's coastlines and oceans are central to our history, our identity, and our way of life.
With our new Nature Strategy, we’re preserving the biodiversity of BC’s Central Coast — and the wildlife it sustains.
Today, we signed a historic agreement to protect thousands of kilometres of coastal waters adjacent to the Great Bear Rainforest with Wuikinuxv, Nuxalk, Kitasoo Xai'xais, Heiltsuk, Gitxaała, and Gitga’at Nations, and the province of British Columbia.
This is the first of up to ten new national marine conservation areas we are establishing through our new nature strategy — helping conserve biodiversity on BC’s Central Coast for generations to come, and contributing to our goal of conserving 30 per cent of marine and coastal waters by 2030.
I am very pleased to announce that, on my recommendation, His Majesty has approved the appointment of the Honourable Louise Arbour as the 31st Governor General of Canada. Across more than five decades, she gave voice to those whose dignity was denied, held institutions to account, and changed lives through her service.
As Canada’s next Governor General, Louise Arbour will represent the best of Canada to our citizens and to the world — a Canada clear-eyed about the challenges we face, and steadfast in the values we uphold.
This week I attended the G7 Environment Ministers' Meeting, and the Petersberg Climate Dialogue — meeting with our international partners to advance climate action, nature protection, and our work to build a more sustainable and competitive economy.
Happy Earth Day! 🌎
In Canada, nature is at the heart of who we are as Canadians, and our national parks are an amazing way we get to connect with it — so for Earth Day, I asked some of my colleagues “What’s your favourite national park?”.
'Blue Heron' is the most acclaimed film of 2026, and director Sophy Romvari says its existence can be credited to grants provided by the Canadian government at both the script and production stages.
“I really did make exactly the movie I wanted to make.... When I started making work in Canada, I was not aware of the privilege of living in a country that has access to arts funding. The version of this film that I would’ve made within the American system would be very, very different — and I don’t know if that one would’ve gotten distribution.” https://t.co/3IJQEP8Mfn
Spanning over 50,000 square kilometres, the Seal River Watershed is one of the world’s largest remaining intact watersheds — home to pristine lakes, wetlands, boreal forest, and wildlife.
As part of our new federal nature strategy, A Force of Nature, we’re working with the Seal River Watershed Alliance and Manitoba government to protect this important landscape and ensure it thrives for generations to come.
Congratulations to Doly Begum, our next Liberal MP for Scarborough Southwest!
For years, Doly has been a tireless advocate for people across her community — and she’ll continue that important work as part of our new Liberal team in Parliament.
