One is fun. The other is intimidating.

Religion is about spirituality. But festivals are about fun. It’s human nature to gravitate toward fun. Christmas was not popular until capitalism made it fun.

It still remains a Christian festival. But it doesn’t demand your absolute spiritual and doctrinal submission before participation. You’re not required to attend the midnight mass. Or believe in Jesus. Or even give a wet fuck about the Bible. You do you.

Just raw, unhinged free-market spectacle.

That’s how you make a festival commercial.

And commercial IS popular.

When you fight against capitalism and commercialization, you fight against some of the most primal human instincts.

The choice is easy. Either spiritual purity, or fun.

You can’t have it both.

P.S. to some extent this IS happening with Diwali and Navaratri, that’s why they’re starting to acquire global currency among non-Hindus too. But sadly people like you are working very hard to prevent it.
