VALUES THAT DRIVE JUSTICE MADLANGA

When Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga was meant to go on retirement, he was grabbed from his family to continue serving the nation. He was not allowed to even take one step into retirement.

��� 31st July 2025: last day at the Constitutional Court
■ 21st July 2025: President announced his appointment as Chair of the
Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference, and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System #MadlangaCommission
■ 17 September 2025: The Commission began it's first public hearings

■ 10 October 2025
Rhodes University said, we want a piece of him too as one of our graduates. He graduated in 1986 with LLB from Rhodes. He was elected Chancellor of Rhodes University. He would preside over graduation ceremonies and serve as ambassador for the university.

What captivated me was his words in accepting the Chancellorship:

"My time as Chancellor will be guided by the same values that I have strived to uphold throughout my judicial career:
■ a commitment to excellence without elitism
■ collegiality that upholds consensus (Collegiality means a cooperative, respectful, and friendly relationship between colleagues or peers in a professional setting)
■ diversity that truly includes
■ and courage that challenges unjust systems."

You don't have to look any further than the Commission and how things are done, to appreciate that the values that drive Justice Madlanga are on display everyday when we switch on our televisions, computers and phones to watch the proceedings.

■ No one is undermined and made to feel small...no elitism whatsoever, however everyone is expected to do their best and excel in their respective duties
■ The spirit of cooperation exudes between him and his Co-Commissioners, the Senior and Junior Evidence Leaders and the staff of the Commission which is diverse in terms of age, race, and gender
■ The courage to challenge unjust systems is what he's busy with on a daily basis at the Commission. His commitment is evident and palpable.

Thank you again Sir for your dedication to serving this nation unreservedly in your various capacities. We cannot thank you enough. 🙏🏽🇿🇦❤️
