I’ve said this before but it’s really refreshing to see @pcooke06 as part of the commentary team for @SkySportsRL
He’s simply giving his expert opinion on the game with no bias. As a former amateur RL coach I appreciate all the nuances he’s seeing, things that fans often miss👏🏻
If Rowley and Briers can’t get this team back to playing with a level of attacking flair and decent shape, I’d be surprised. He needs the backing of the board to sign players but for me, Rowley showed a level of integrity last season at Salford and stuck by the club in untenable circumstances. Players seem to have respect for him and want to play for him - just like Peet does at Wigan. He also had no qualms in calling out our poor attacking play on sky a month or so ago, I doubt we will see the word salad we have become used to. It’s a calculated gamble - but there is more chance of him staying if he can turn this team around and have success compared to an Aussie assistant who uses the job as a stepping stone back to a head coaches job in NRL. I for one wish him luck.
@AndrewVossy How did we get two incredible finishes in two play off games on both sides of the globe on the same weekend? @NRL@SuperLeague
The @Saints1890 finish was 🤯
Watch your mate Brian Carneys face at the end 😂😂
@rlfansSaddened@Andyjlyon Let’s not forget this is the 10 year lag from Australia again. Wayne Bennett as coach of the Kangaroos picked the 5 best full backs in the NRL and played them in all positions 1-5.
@pcooke06 absolutely love the commentary with @MarkWilsonRadio
Outstanding work 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
You had to rip up the script and speak from the emotion of seeing it live. I was at Knowsley Road for wide to west 25 years ago, and know exactly what was going through your heads - but you held it together and delivered a memorable commentary there!!
@M_Shaw1 And knowing this was the case and could happen, please explain to me why Wellens went with one prop on the bench? Considering you were defending against sacking him on @RedVeeDotNet 🤷🏻♂️
For the first time in 35+ years of watching @Saints1890 I’m not that fussed if they lose tonight simply because they are so boring to watch. Briers was brought in to improve attacking structures - either he’s not been allowed to or we simply don’t have the players who can execute them. That’s a sad state of affairs for a club once called The Entertainers.
As a former coach and Chairman of @NewtonStormARL how incredible is it to be in London, and see former Storm player Herbie Farnworth on the promotional poster for Ashes Series @wembleystadium for GB Lions v Kangaroos on 25 October @dolphinsnrl@EnglandRL - he may not be fit to play, but he is a credit to the club 👍🏻
For those that didn’t notice, @samtomkins1 actually announced his “second” retirement inadvertently last week 😂😂 No way he’d be spending his danger money on new veneers and then taking the field again!! As a @Saints1890 fan, loved / hated watching him in equal measure, but good luck in your next chapter 👍🏻
Play Magic as one of the regular rounds, seven teams out of 14 forfeit a home fixture, the following year the other seven forfeit a home fixture. “Home” team get compensated for loss of revenue, or season ticket holders get a free ticket for the event included in the price of their season ticket. You are not going to to get 60,000 people at St James Park watching a meaningless 9’s tournament especially when the top clubs are likely to rest their star
players. Surely that’s more workable. Unless of course the nine tournament tracks ridiculous sponsorship and the winners get £1 million to make it worthwhile. Can’t say that’s likely though knowing the RFL commercial team
Hence why I said he won’t get the space or freedom against other sides. I’m looking at other metrics from his performance other than running through a defensive line of kids. I can guarantee one thing - I bet you can’t show me many other tries in SL where someone playing the ball supports the play and scores. 99.9% of players switch off after playing the ball and don’t involve themselves in the next play. He did, that shows a mentality that to me show he has the right attitude and will likely be a success in Superleague - it has nothing to do with the opposition, and credit to your young lads who showed up btw, they should never have been in that situation but will be better players for the experience
Can I just reinforce this long standing personal campaign:
@AndrewVossy to @SuperLeague
What’s not to like. He may put on 15kg with all the food reviews but he will give us the best commentary since “Wide to West”
