The near bankruptcy crisis @MaldivianAero is currently facing is a direct result of the populist decision by @ibusolih to force Maldivian to reduce their fares by 30%.

Maldivian needs to abolish fixed pricing & adopt a semi-budget airline model if they’re to sustain now. Relying on government for subsidy always has no business sense in it.

Because of their current fixed pricing, it’s unaffordable for a lot of people on so many routes. The result is, they have to fly empty. But a highly fluctuating pricing model which reacts to demand, with a maximum price set can help them fill the seats for every journey. Because the person who couldn’t afford the fixed 3,000 MVR return ticket might be tempted to fly to his or her island for the weekend if the price today is 900 MVR return @JenniferAishath
