Yesterday, @VenturesSahara and Hindsight Ventures @HSV_Africa achieved a huge milestone in linking the Tanzanian and Indian Startup ecosystem after signing an MoU in front of the President of The United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellence Pres. @SuluhuSamia. The partnership will open up collaboration in the two ecosystems in talents exchange, flow of capital, and technology transfer between the two markets. Success is like an Iceberg. People don’t factor in all the below the surface opportunity-costs they paid to achieve that success. With powerful social media world we live in these days, it gives you the highlight reel. It blows up all the endless made shots; rather than including the misses that preceded it.  

People see the success, but not the work that went into it… The unseen hours, necessary failures, setbacks, crises of confidence, the not-now’s (to the countless asks), the loneliness, the late nights and early mornings; and, all the wobbling that comes before the walking-much less running. All they see is trophies, not sweat. They see diplomas, not homework. We see performances, not rehearsals.

My fellow Tanzanians, there's no such thing as an “OVERNIGHT SUCCESS”. Nothing worthwhile is created without time, planning and effort!

Yesterday in Arusha, we had the privilege of witnessing the State Mining Corporation (STAMICO) receive two distinguished awards: one for being recognised as the best turnaround company in terms of financial and operational performance as of June 2023, and the other for its remarkable dividend payments in the State Owned Enterprise (SOE) category, also as of June 2023.

A notable fact: As of 2019, STAMICO was on the brink of insolvency. However, a concerted effort to turn the tide was initiated. By June 2023, it had achieved an unprecedented milestone – a record-breaking profit of TZS 17.4 Billion before audit for STAMICO as standalone.

During the same event, Twiga Minerals Corporation Limited (a joint venture involving the Government of Tanzania with a 16% stake and Barrick with an 84% stake) was equally recognised for its outstanding dividend payments in the minority interest category, again pertaining to June 2023.

This moment signifies merely the dawn of a promising journey. Anticipation fills the air as we contemplate the myriad achievements that await us in the forthcoming five years.

Mheshimiwa Waziri, let us continue this forward momentum; rest assured, we stand united behind you, ready to contribute more towards these triumphs.
