Looking at our intrapartum guideline and NICE- what do other units do if Progress in 1st stage <2cm in 4 hours, and woman has ruptured membranes? Do you go straight to considering oxytocin? Or wait 2 hrs to check if progress >1cm? @NICEComms@RCM_Norwich @sheena_byrom
Does anyone have suggestions for names of delivery suite and midwifery led units which refrain from the words Delivery and led? This would help our work greatly.
Thanks 😊

@sheena_byrom@RCM_Norwich@keldafolliard@MIDIRS I saw Guys and St Thomas call their units Hospital Birth Centre and Home from Home Birth Centre. I’ve looked at every unit across the country and there’s so much variation. Would u be interested in an article? X
Our NNUH PMA Evidence Club will be exploring ‘Language in Maternity’. We would love to hear from midwives, obstetrician, women and families about their experiences of the use on language in maternity. Please DM me to join our session.

Looking forward to discussing the best evidence surround latent phase of labour at the NNUH Evidence Club tomorrow. Women are in labour when they perceive their labour begins, let’s be ‘with woman’ and use language which doesn’t undermine them.
@sheena_byrom @HelenCheyne @MidwivesRCM@NNUHPMAs Thank you Sheena, this has everything we need to redefine the latent phase. Just wondering here-do you think NICE would act on WHO guidance? Ps- There’s so much evidence out there, do you want to hear more?
Latent Phase of Labour is integral to midwifery practice but what is the evidence which defines it or it’s progression? Can anyone share their evidence/thoughts on the Latent Phase? We r holding an Evidence Club on this topic at the NNUH @sheena_byrom@MidwivesRCM@NNUHPMAs
@Gracewife@sheena_byrom@MidwivesRCM@NNUHPMAs Thank you, I’ve just read the research Spiby has led on this subject, thank you, very useful. Ps have you seen Tilden Et al (2019) describing latent phase duration ... that is pretty incredible and highlights that labour accelerates only after 5cm. Keep in touch!
Proud to announce my human factors module has been published by the Royal College of Midwives and is available to all midwives to access. Thank you RCM for your support https://t.co/u8dr0U9MbM @DrNancyFontaine@EmmaeHardwick@DrKenda@GailRCM
Being isolated from those we love is one of the toughest parts of being on the nhs front line at the moment. Hearing stories of mums leaving food outside the child’s bedrooms - so they won’t catch Covid 19 breaks my heart. I’m thinking of you all x
