Two economists just published a mathematical proof that AI will destroy the economy.

Not might. Not could. Will — if nothing changes.

The paper is called "The AI Layoff Trap." Published March 2, 2026. Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Boston University. Peer reviewed. Mathematically modeled.
The conclusion is one sentence.
"At the limit, firms automate their way to boundless productivity and zero demand."

An economy that produces everything. And sells it to nobody.
Here is how you get there.
A company fires 500 workers and replaces them with AI. A competitor fires 700 to keep up. Another fires 1,000. Every company is behaving rationally. Every company is following the incentives correctly. And every company is building a trap for itself.

Because the workers who were fired were also customers.
When they lose their jobs faster than the economy can absorb them, they stop spending. Consumer demand falls. Companies respond by cutting costs — which means automating more workers — which means less spending — which means more falling demand — which means more automation.

The loop has no natural exit.
The researchers tested every proposed solution. Universal basic income. Capital income taxes. Worker equity participation. Upskilling programs. Corporate coordination agreements.
Every single one failed in the model.
The only intervention that worked: a Pigouvian automation tax — a per-task levy charged every time a company replaces a human with AI, forcing them to price in the demand they are destroying before they pull the trigger.

No government has implemented this. No major economy is seriously discussing it.
Meanwhile the numbers are already tracking the curve. 100,000 tech workers laid off in 2025. 92,000 more in the first months of 2026. Jack Dorsey fired half of Block's workforce and said publicly: "Within the next year, the majority of companies will reach the same conclusion."
Nobody is doing anything wrong. Companies are following their incentives perfectly. That is exactly the problem.

Rational behavior. At scale. Simultaneously. With no mechanism to stop it.
Two economists built the math. The math leads to one place.

- Windkraftgenehmigungen dauern nicht mehr 5 bis 7 Jahre, sondern nur noch 6 Monate bei digitalem Antrag

- PV-Flächen neben Autobahnen und Bahnlinien können nun mit einfachen Anträgen gebaut werden

- Agri-PV ist für alle Höfe erlaubt

- SüdLink ist im Bau und zwar von SH bis BW (in SH hat Habeck das schon bauen lassen, als er dort noch Landesminister war)

- Die H2-Gas-Pipelines sind genehmigt und im Bau

- PV-Industrie in Deutschland fährt hoch

- Bosch fährt Rekordgewinn der Firmengeschichte ein

- die dt. Stahlindustrie ist durch Förderung der EU (die Habeck erwirkt hat) finanziell für die Umrüstung auf H2 getragen und bleibt in Deutschland erhalten

- Balkon-Solar wurde per Gesetz erlaubt

- Firmen und Privatpersonen investieren in Klimaneutralität in einem Maße, das es unter Merkel nie gab

- der PV-Hochlauf hat im September 2023 bereits das ursprüngliche Soll für 2023 erreicht und wird bis zum Jahresende deutlich größer als geplant

- die Wärmewende für Gebäude wurde (durch die FDP mit Holpersteinen versehen) eingeführt und viele Menschen kaufen sich endlich klimafreundlichere Heizungen

- die RWE und die EnBW haben zugesagt 8 bzw. 10 Jahre früher aus der Kohle auszusteigen als unter Merkel geplant und beide Firmen befinden sich in einem rasanten Hochlauf der klimaneutralen Stromerzeugung

- der Bau von klimaneutralen Neubauten sowie der Umbau zu Bestand auf Klimaneutralität wird so gut gefördert, dass es sich - über die Jahre gerechnet - für alle lohnt, jetzt schnellstmöglich umzustellen

- Deutschland wird beim Umbau auf Erneuerbare mehr als doppelt so schnell sein wie Frankreich (Stand heute, vielleicht wird Frankreich ja noch klug),

- es wurden Verträge mit mehreren Nationen geschlossen, um H2 zu liefern

- die Energieversorger bauen bereits H2-fähige Gaskraftwerke

Und nicht zu vergessen:
- das Gas, das Putin abgeschnitten hatte, wurde durch Verträge mit anderen Ländern ersetzt

- es wurden in Rekordzeit große Infrastrukturprojekte errichtet und Deutschland kam sehr gut über den letzten Winter

Daneben gab es

- etliche Umweltschutzprojekte, Schutz von Mooren und eine

- leider noch zu kleine, aber immerhin nun begonnene Kindergrundsicherung.

Das alles und noch viel mehr sind die Erfolge der ersten 21 Monate.

Das ist mehr als Merkel in den letzten 10 Jahren erreicht hatte. Merkel hat Deutschland nur seitwärts verwaltet, derweil andere Länder längst Fortschritte im Klimaschutz gemacht hatten.

Wir müssen endlich aufholen, wenn wir in der Welt unseren Ruf wahren wollen.

Wer all diese Fortschritte ablehnt, der muss gegen Deutschland und gegen die deutsche Bevölkerung sein. Da gibt es keine zweite Sichtweise.

Grün macht uns als Nation unabhängiger.
Grün macht Deutschland wirtschaftlich zukunftsfit.
Grün schützt Menschen vor zu hohen CO2-Kosten.
Grün modernisiert Deutschland und verbessert so unseren Ruf in der Welt.

Grün wirkt und das ist sehr gut so.
