I have not considered myself on a side within this organization (nor have i thought there was a need for sides prior to this bullying via lawsuit). I have too much else on my plate. But the disregard for the people who have made the organization work has really pushed me away.
Thread is worth a read & considering. Bryan's behind the scenes pressure on the prior president resulted in the resolutions committee failing to meet & therefore no resolution to honor members who passed in the previous year, including Mike Campbell.
Tomorrow morning in a Galveston courtroom a hearing will take place with major consequences for the dispute over the @TxStHistAssoc. Filings for this hearing reveal more about how one donor can hijack a century-old organization. /1 https://t.co/B5jlPMnEI7
@KeriLeighMerrit I am presently in Ireland for a short conference & preparing to head home, where we have to decide what to do about our child starting kindergarten next year. And feeling like there are no good options.
Earlier today, I wrapped up my first time at a lovely annual conference with @theIAAS
I didn't get the chance to chat with everyone I would have liked to, or to thank everyone I would have liked to. I came away with much to think on, and may have more thoughts in coming days.
Tomorrow morming, I am presenting at a new-to-me conference on three planter class sisters who never married & how they remained integral to the network of family property, through two inter-state migrations, the Civil War, & emancipation.
@gvaughnjoy I am heading the opposite direction on Tuesday, & my renewal had not been processed at all. Took my Congressman's office calling on my behalf to get a Monday appointment at my nearest passport office. With trip so near, try the offices that may be able to intervene for you.
@gvaughnjoy Yeah, a kid asked the TX lege to do something about ending Confederate Heroes Day (19 Jan), and got handled roughly in the pushback. Bills to do so have been filed in current & past 2 sessions (never out of committee). April draws less scrutiny, b/c it is declared year by year.
@Garrett_Archer Do they talk about state university faculty salaries? In my state, many of them have fallen far below teacher pay & I am interested in whether the same crisis is brewing in other states.
@KeriLeighMerrit Wqs just discussing with a colleague today how humanities professors are no longer middle class jobs. I was looking at salary ranges for institutions i may apply at & realizing there would be no way to even rent a home for my family in those towns.
@gvaughnjoy I haven't had time to pursue or find if someone has written it thoroughly, but I am interested in the evolution of Robin Hood over the centuries. The class-conscious version we know seems to coalesce in the 19th c. The original was a hero because he held up social norms.
