In a tight budget year, we need to focus on the investments that make the most impact for kids!
The #PurpleWave was in full force at the budget oversight hearing for @OSSEDC ! TEN PAVE Parent Leaders testified, urging @councilofdc to:
📚 Update legislation to require OSSE to publish a list of curriculum used by each school in all grades for literacy and math, indicating which meet the standards for High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM). 💸 BONUS: This is a no-cost ask! 💸
🎯 Maintain $3M in funding for high-impact tutoring, which is proven to boost students' academic achievement and their attendance
💼 Protect funding for the Advanced Technical Center so more kids graduate prepared for college & career success
i turned my phone off for a full weekend once. by saturday evening i had:
- cleaned my entire place
- cooked a real meal
- read 120 pages
- had the best sleep of my adult life.
we don't have an anxiety epidemic. we have an overstimulation epidemic.
My therapist told me:
“When a person grows up feeling unseen, they learn to love by over-giving. They pour into everyone else, hoping that, one day, someone will finally pour back into them. So they become the care taker. The fixer. The one who shows up, even when no one shows up for them.”
And the hardest part? Deep down, they're not trying to be strong. They're just waiting for someone to do for them what they've spent their whole life doing for everyone else.
📣📚 Parents across the country agree: Our kids need evidence-based reading instruction!
PAVE Parent Leaders joined @NationalParents on the Hill not just once, but TWICE last week to advocate for literacy supports based in the science of reading:
📕 We met with @EleanorNorton ‘s office to share about the national literacy crisis and the policy solutions that make a difference for kids, including the READ Act!
📗 We attended a Congressional briefing on the READ Act, which would require states receiving CLSD funding to implement evidence-based practices. Shoutout to @dcpublicschools Chancellor Lewis Ferebee, who shared about the progress DC is already making in literacy!
✏️ Literacy proficiency in DC is the highest on record – but with proficiency rates at just 37%, there’s still more to be done to make sure ALL our babies can read and achieve on grade level. Sign our budget petition & tell our system leaders to keep investing in the future of DC by investing in our kids! https://t.co/UXKgWkfCoX

Saw the WNBA CBA news and went right over to Ticketmaster to see what these @WashMystics tickets are looking like.
Got mad all over again that CareFirst Arena was not built with the growing popularity of the W in mind.

dear apple, the iPod needs to come back. not for nostalgia. for the parents who want their kids to love music and audiobooks without a browser, social media, and the whole internet attached to it
@MamaFullerDC of @dcpave underscored a simple truth: if we want better outcomes for students, we must invest directly in the adults responsible for instruction.
Strong educator training is a student-centered investment.
