Des conversations sur la souveraineté financière qui ont continué bien après la fermeture des salles. 

 Pendant trois jours, des entrepreneurs, développeurs, investisseurs, décideurs publics, étudiants, créateurs de contenu et passionnés venus de plusieurs pays africains et du reste du monde se sont réunis autour d'une conviction commune : l'Afrique n'attend plus que le Bitcoin vienne à elle. Elle le construit.

Hier, j'ai partagé le plateau de @BfmCrypto avec Arnaud Touati et Jonathan Herscovici pour parler réglementation mais surtout innovation.

L'occasion de revenir sur une actualité qui m'a marquée : @tando_me .

Rappel, l'entreprise a rendu 40 millions de numéros M-Pesa adressables sur le réseau Lightning. Concrètement : on peut envoyer des fractions de Bitcoin à quelqu'un au Kenya depuis son téléphone, et cette personne reçoit des shillings sur son mobile. Sans wallet, sans jargon, sans rien comprendre au Bitcoin.

Le Bitcoin devient le rail. Pas le produit.

Attention toutefois : ces 40 millions ne sont pas 40 millions d'utilisateurs de Bitcoin. C'est un rail qui se pose, pas une vague d'adoption. Mais c'est précisément là que se joue l'essentiel, le Kenya reçoit plus de 4 milliards de dollars de transferts par an, sur des canaux chers et lents.

Et cette nouvelle tranche avec l'atmosphère de la conférence de la BCEAO, tenue à Dakar le 8 mai.

Une conférence historique (premier pas réel, à saluer) réunissant le FMI, la Banque mondiale et la Fed. Mais centrée sur la réglementation et les stablecoins, et qui a quasiment ignoré Bitcoin et les innovations des fintechs africaines.

D'un côté, les institutions débattent du cadre. De l'autre, l'usage avance sur le terrain.

Il y a 9 mois, nous organisions la toute première édition de la Bitcoin School hors de Cotonou, ici même à Parakou.
Ce week-end, nous revenons pour une 2e édition encore plus riche, plus instructive et plus immersive.

🐘🐘 Deux éléphants. Une pièce. 8 heures de conférence (j'ai tout regardé).

Le 8 mai, la BCEAO organisait sa conférence internationale sur les crypto-actifs et innovations numériques.

Des banquiers centraux qui assument leurs limites et l'urgence, les stablecoins disséqués, l'échec de l'e-Naira reconnu et des interventions de qualité, notamment celle de la banquière centrale de l'Île Maurice, que j'ai particulièrement appréciée.

Mais deux éléphants ont traversé la salle et personne n'a semblé les remarquer.

Éléphant 1 : Les fintechs africaines. Absentes de la scène. Défilé de consultants et d'institutions étrangères venus faire la leçon. La jeunesse africaine, citée toute la journée, n'a jamais eu le micro.

Éléphant 2 : Bitcoin (comme toujours). Classé « actif spéculatif » et expédié.

Pendant ce temps : BlackRock, Fidelity, la réserve stratégique américaine, le rapport Deutsche Bank qui annonce du BTC au bilan des banques centrales d'ici 2030.

3 millions d'utilisateurs au Congo (le gouverneur l'a dit lui-même).
Tando qui équipe 48 millions de Kenyans en Lightning.
Gridless au Malawi.
La valorisation des surcapacités en Éthiopie.
Le parc des Virunga. Dubai.
L'Iran qui annonce faire payer le passage du détroit d'Ormuz en Bitcoin…

L'éléphant est quand même gros pour qu'on ne le voie pas et qu'on l'ignore comme ça.

Une conférence « crypto » en 2026 sans une table ronde sur Bitcoin, c'est une lecture partielle du sujet ; un oubli ou une erreur.

Autre point : pourquoi le FMI, la BRI, la Banque de France et la Fed étaient-ils dans la salle ? Ça pose immédiatement l'enjeu géopolitique.

La zone CFA n'est pas un détail régional, ce qu'elle « décide » intéresse Washington, Paris, Bâle.

Bref, il y a beaucoup de choses à dire sur cette conférence.

The region is a young, digitally savvy population, combined with challenges around remittances, inflation, and financial access, makes Bitcoin a natural fit.

For the past few months, I started focusing on a new project, and I'm finally ready to share it with the world.

I've written a book. Defending Bitcoin: Industrial-Grade Cybersecurity for the Monetary Grid.

6 months ago, I realized how I could apply my cybersecurity background to Bitcoin, with a perspective grounded in the world of critical infrastructure and industrial control systems.

In Defending Bitcoin, I make the case that Bitcoin is critical infrastructure, and I mean that technically. Critical infrastructure is everything essential for the modern world to run the way it does, and I assert that Bitcoin meets the threshold of that definition.

Defending Bitcoin is grounded in the industrial cybersecurity principles that I use on a daily basis. The framework I've built is based on ISA/IEC 62443, the most widespread industry standard for industrial cybersecurity, and applies universal cybersecurity principles such as defense-in-depth, risk management, and threat modeling. And in all cases, there's always something you can do to improve your security or that of the network as a whole.

I wrote the book for two audiences at once. The first is bitcoiners who want to improve their security posture. The second is technical professionals who may be skeptical about Bitcoin and want to understand it better. I build a base of vocabulary for both sides to understand each other, then cover the threat landscape over the course of 10 chapters.
