HOW THE NIGERIAN STOCK MARKET WORKS

1. Stocks
- Shares of ownership in Nigerian companies (e.g., GTCO, Dangote Cement, MTN Nigeria).

- Represent ownership in a company listed on the NGX (Nigerian Exchange).

2. Investors

1. Build a Mock Risk Register

Use Excel or Google Sheets to list at least 5 risks with fields like: risk description, likelihood, impact, mitigation plan, and residual score. Choose risks related to real-world scenarios like phishing, unpatched software, or vendor issues. Even if you’re new, you can reference known frameworks like NIST CSF categories or ISO 27005 to guide your thinking.

2. Write a Sample Policy Document

Pick a simple topic like Acceptable Use or Remote Work and draft a 1–2 page policy. Include a short introduction, what’s allowed vs. not, and who’s responsible for following it. Look at public policies online (search: “Company Acceptable Use Policy PDF”) for inspiration and structure. Focus on being clear, not perfect.

3. Create a Vendor Risk Questionnaire

Make a short questionnaire (10–15 questions) in Google Forms or Word. Cover things like data encryption, access controls, incident response, and third-party sub-processing. Add yes/no and short answer formats. Bonus if you add a scoring system (e.g. 1–5 risk scale). You’ll be able to show hiring managers you can screen vendors for potential risk.

4. Analyze a Real Breach Using a GRC Framework
Choose a breach (like Target, Capital One, T-Mobile, or MOVEit) and write a one-pager explaining what happened; then map what failed to one of the five NIST CSF functions (Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, Recover). You’ll show that you know how to apply frameworks in real life, not just memorize them.

5. Build a Control Tracker with Framework Mapping

Take a common framework (NIST 800-53, ISO 27001, SOC 2) and map 5–10 controls to fake company actions. For example, map “multi-factor authentication” to a policy, a technology (like Okta), and a control owner.

Show you can tie controls to people, processes, and tech; which is exactly what a GRC professional needs to do.

It is more common here than anywhere else.

2) You must have a good CGPA
- Specifically, at least 4.25/5.0 (3.4/4.0)
- Anything less than this will be hard.

3) You need to have at least one of the following:
- High GRE/GMAT score (>320)
- RELEVANT work experience (>2 years)
- Publications (At least 2)

(The more the better, but one is okay)

4) After you’ve satisfied 1-3, then FOCUS on cold emails.

- Find schools that have Graduate assistantships available, or they say “all admitted students are funded”
