Controversial information peddler Brown Mogotsi will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday following his dramatic arrest shortly after testifying at the Madlanga Commission on Friday.

Mogotsi was arrested by a SAPS multidisciplinary team while driving from Pretoria to Johannesburg -about 45 minutes after leaving the commission proceedings, where he spent nearly four hours under questioning.

News of Mogotsi’s arrest broke exclusively on @eNCA shortly before 7pm.

During his testimony, Mogotsi repeatedly stated that he did not want to “incriminate” himself when pressed on several key issues by the chief evidence leader and commissioners.

Police confirmed that officers executed a J50 warrant of arrest for defeating the ends of justice.

According to SAPS, the case stems from the alleged staging of an attempted assassination on Mogotsi’s life in Vosloorus in November last year.

Investigators claim the shooting incident was deliberately orchestrated to create the impression that Mogotsi had been targeted.

The arrest has added another dramatic twist to the already explosive developments surrounding the Madlanga Commission and Mogotsi’s testimony before it.

SAPS also revealed that preliminary investigations have linked the firearm allegedly used in the Vosloorus incident to other serious and violent crimes, including murder and attempted murder cases.

This revelation is expected to intensify scrutiny around the broader criminal network investigators may now be uncovering.

Sources have also indicated that other investigations involving Mogotsi are already at an advanced stage, raising the possibility of further legal trouble in the coming weeks as multiple law enforcement agencies continue probing his alleged activities and associations.

Mogotsi’s court appearance on Monday is likely to attract major public and media attention.

The possibility of more arrests for the alleged staged shooting has not been ruled out.

Mogotsi is being detained in Johannesburg.

The arrest also comes amid growing pressure on authorities to act decisively in matters connected to allegations of political interference, criminality, and attempts to manipulate investigations or public perception.

A J50 warrant, which SAPS confirmed was used in this case, is typically issued when investigators believe there are sufficient grounds for an arrest without delay.

Scores of police officers have been arrested over recent weeks and it’s believed more arrests are in the pipeline.
