The arrest of Vinesh Chandel, co-founder of I-PAC, barely 10 days before the Bengal elections, is not just alarming- It shakes the very idea of a level playing field.

At a time when WB should be moving toward free and fair elections, this kind of action sends a chilling message: If you work with the opposition, you could be next. That’s not democracy- that’s intimidation!

What makes it even harder to ignore is the double standard. Those facing serious corruption allegations seem to find protection the moment they switch sides, while others are swiftly targeted at politically convenient moments. People are not blind to this anymore.

When institutions meant to protect democracy start feeling like tools of pressure, trust begins to erode. On one side, the Election Commission. On the other, agencies like the ED, NIA, CBI stepping in at the most sensitive time. It creates an atmosphere of fear, not fairness.

India has always taken pride in its democracy- loud, messy but free. But today, many are beginning to ask: are we still that country?

This is bigger than one arrest. It is about whether our institutions remain independent and whether every citizen, no matter their political belief, can participate without fear.

Because once fear replaces freedom, democracy becomes just a word.

To Amit Shah and the BJP’s power structure- Be in Bengal on the 4th and 5th of May. Come with Gyanesh Kumar and every agency you deploy. Bengal will not be bullied, will not be silenced and will not bow. This is a land that answers pressure with resistance and it will show you exactly what that means!

BJP and its B-team, the ‘Vanish Commission’, are sending Observers to Bengal to alter the election outcome through unfair means. These “Observers” are individuals with special proximity to the BJP; individuals with criminal antecedents; individuals accused in corruption and bribery cases.

But the real “Observers” are the people of Bengal. And they have been watching. They have watched every rupee of Bengal's rightful funds withheld. Every legitimate voter erased. Every constitutional office weaponised against this state. Every attempt to bend Bengal to its knees and force it to beg for what is rightfully its own.

Now, the time has come for the people to respond in the only language the BJP understands. Straight-out rejection. The people of Dhupguri and Kalchini are fully prepared. Every single vote for our candidates Dr. Nirmal Chandra Roy and Shri Birendra Bara will land like a bolt of lightning on a party that mistook Bengal's patience for submission.

❗Vote-bandi. Tughlaqi demonetisation, announced without warning, sent an entire nation scrambling to stand in lines outside banks and ATMs, begging for access to their own money.

❗Ghar-bandi. An unplanned, chaotic lockdown, announced with four hours notice, drove millions of migrant workers onto highways with nothing but the clothes on their backs, walking hundreds of kilometres home in the scorching heat.

❗Vote-bandi. A coercive, vindictive SIR exercise, engineered to erase lakhs of legitimate voters, forced pregnant women, the elderly, the sick, and daily wage earners to stand in endless queues to prove they exist.

❗Gas-bandi. An unchecked LPG price hike combined with a crippling supply shortage has sent ordinary citizens back to standing in never-ending queues for a cooking gas cylinder they can barely afford.

Four crises. One government. One unbroken record of forcing the common citizen to stand in line, endure harassment, and bear the consequences of decisions made by people who have never once stood in a queue for anything in their lives.

But here is what comes next. The people of Bengal will stand in one final queue. The voting queue. And with every single vote cast, they will send BJP into the exit line. Permanently.

Despite a clear order from the SC and its own formal communication, the @ECISVEEP has failed to release and publish the list of LOGICAL DISCREPANCIES that it was mandated to publish by the 24th January- today in all Gram Panchayats and municipal wards.

The same software that allegedly assessed and analysed over 7 crore enumeration forms and miraculously detected “logical discrepancies” within one hour on 16 December immediately after the draft rolls were published now seems to have lost its logic, speed, credibility and confidence.

Three obvious questions therefore remains stark and unanswered:

1️⃣ WHAT EXACTLY IS THE ECI TRYING TO HIDE ?

2️⃣ If DISCREPANCIES could be identified in one hour, why does it take days to DISCLOSE them?

3️⃣ Is the @ECISVEEP looking for LOGIC or hiding the DISCREPANCIES?

@narendramodi 5 বছর বাংলায় আসেনি। বাংলার মানুষের ঘরের টাকা, 100 দিনের কাজের টাকা, সর্বশিক্ষা মিশনের টাকা, রাস্তার টাকা আটকে ভোটের আগে মিথ্যা ভাষণ দিতে আসে। উত্তরবঙ্গের লোক ঢেলে বিজেপিকে ভোট দিলেও তাদের জন্যে কিছুই করেনি। উত্তরবঙ্গের জন্যে স্পেশাল প্যাকেজ কিংবা চা শিল্পের উন্নয়ন কিছুই করেনি।

আমি মুখ্যমন্ত্রী @MamataOfficial -র কাছে অনুরোধ করছি বিষয়টা একটু গুরুত্ব দিয়ে দেখবেন। রাজ্যের সব জেলায় শিক্ষা দফতর আগামীকাল মকর সংক্রান্তি উপলক্ষ্যে ছুটি ঘোষণা হয়েছে অথচ আমাদের দক্ষিণ 24 পরগনা জেলায় গঙ্গাসাগর মেলা অথচ আমাদের জেলায় স্কুলে কোনো ছুটি ঘোষণা হয়নি।

@MoupiaNandy আজকে আপনার অধীর চৌধুরীর কথা মনে পড়ছে অথচ কদিন আগে মুর্শিদাবাদের মুসলিম শ্রমিকদের ভিন রাজ্যে হেনস্থা করা হচ্ছিল, বাংলাদেশে পাঠিয়ে দেওয়া হচ্ছিল তখন অধীর চৌধুরী কোথায় ছিল? ওনার ভূমিকা কি ছিল? ফালতু কথা কম বলুন।

@MoupiaNandy অধীর চৌধুরী অনেক আগেই বিজেপি চলে যেত। যদি বিজেপি চলে যায় তাহলে বহরমপুর সিটে জিতবে না আবার অন্য কোথাও দাঁড়ালে সেখানেও জিতবে না। এই ভেবে যায়নি। জেলার মানুষ ঠিক ধরে ফেলেছিল ওর মতলব। মানুষ বোকা নয়।

@MoupiaNandy আপনি হয়তো ভুলে যাচ্ছেন এই বাংলায় মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় আছে। সব ঠান্ডা করে দেবে। আর বিজেপি রাম নিয়ে লাফালাফি করছে কই সেটার কথা বললেন না তো?

@tjt4002 বিজেপির যুক্তি — বিজেপি অন্য রাজ্যে ভোটে হারলে তার প্রভাব নাকি বাংলায় পড়বে না, কিন্তু অন্য জায়গায় জিতলে তার প্রভাব নাকি এখানে পড়বে 😀😀 এটা বাংলা, আর এখানে মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় আছেন। 26 শে লেজে গোবরে করে বাড়ি পাঠানো হবে। বিজেপি বাংলায় 70 ক্রস করবে না, স্ক্রিনশট রেখে দিন।
