Sprint discourse in Halo reveals something; most people cannot consider how small details affect the holistic view of something.
People liked classic Halo because it WASN'T Battlefield, COD, Gears, or any other shooter with sprint in it. Not solely because it didn't have sprint, but because when viewed holistically, it was a substantially different game from the alternatives.
Making even one singular change to make it more similar to those games completely ruins that because the entire concept of the game (again, viewed holistically) has to be redesigned to accommodate that change. 343i very explicitly said that one of their goals was to make Halo "more like COD," and nu-Halo and its fanbase is the result. You will even see people make that argument themselves, saying "every other shooter has it."
This what anti-creativity and homogenization of a medium looks like. This is "you control the buttons you press" in action. It's a pass-fail test where you either understand why this is bad or you just concede (voluntarily or not) that you don't actually like or understand video games.
Call of Duty fans used to call Halo "gaylo" and Halo fans used to make fun of COD for getting worse every year and Star Wars fans used to call Star Trek lame while Trekkies called Star Wars slop and now both sides of both just mourn the Century of Humiliation for all four
FREEDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
For some reason twatter thought I was a bot and suspended my account
Maybe I doom scrolled too hard and liked too much lewd stuff
But RNGesus of their AI appeals smiled upon me, and now I'm back 🙏
A weekly schedule is only late when the week is over!
And this little wizard has been stuck in the Coding Dark Zone
There's nothing in this brain but code
I dream of gamedev even while awake
My inventory system haunts my dreams
But one day I'll vanquish the spaghetti
The problem with Star Wars is that it has the shallowest black & white morality system, and yet it still fails at being consistent
It all stems from nobody putting a dog collar on George Lucas and whipping his ass whenever he deviated from it
'Remedy’s new CEO says Alan Wake and Control ‘should have sold more’ – and movie/TV deal will ‘help us do that’' https://t.co/0Lc3JQjpNe

The puppy stares you with big eyes, and you instinctively know he wants you to watch this week streams':
-NPC abuse
-Wildlife banquet
-More NPC abuse
-Maybe not NPC abuse / Shantae dancing on my screen
-Finishing exploration
-Hopefully not NPC abuse / Big ass & gravity puzzles
@GDGoldSon I said "interactions", and if the only one is basically "getting rid of an annoying pest," then you have a really, really bad design problem
This is a lesson on feedback
Leviathans get boring after you get over your fear; they just annoy you, and that's *bad*. Your only interaction with them is: you get bullied then shoo them away
Rather than teach the player why they shouldn't kill, the devs just preach at you
Subnautica 2 devs say "go play Sons of the Forest" if you don't like its lack of violence.
The game focuses on underwater exploration, and you cannot kill most creatures.
On the official Discord, one player asked why killing is impossible in SN2 as it makes no sense. Level designer Artyom O’Rielly replied,
“This is not a killing game, so go play Sons of the Forest if you want to kill.” Another developer said, “The team discusses this a lot inside the studio and may let players catch small fish for food, but large creatures will stay safe so the game feels right.”
This idea comes from the first Subnautica, as the team wants players to discover things, feel wonder, and live with ocean life instead of fighting it.
A fan-made mod already lets players kill creatures, and the studio is reading all feedback. It plans to add better ways to scare off creatures but will not add weapons.
Early access is expected to last up to 3 years.
@Shark_Dude There are many examples in real life of predators acting curious instead of aggressive towards humans
You could also have friendship mechanics
In Dishonored, if you kill too many, you get the bad ending because it spreads the plague
But nooo, they gotta preach
