Why is water running from that hydrant? π§
Don't be alarmed if you see water flowing from a neighborhood hydrant β this is routine hydrant flushing by Manatee County. Strategic flushing keeps your drinking water fresh and clean, helps the county identify any maintenance issues before they become bigger problems, and ensures the entire water distribution system is running at its best.
It's a proactive investment in the health and safety of your neighborhood that benefits every household on the line.

Together weβre turning old shoes into a cleaner future. Between GT Bray, John Marble, and all Manatee County libraries, our community donated 782 pairs of shoes, filling 33 bags that were sent off for recycling instead of ending up in a Manatee County landfill.
This photo is a powerful visual of what we kept out of our local landfill and a reminder that small actions can make a big difference for our environment.
Thank you to everyone who donated and helped make this recycling effort a success!
During National Safety Month, transit agencies across the country are focused on education, awareness, and keeping both drivers and passengers safe. Manatee County Area Transit wants to remind the community that the highly visible safety vests worn by our operators help protect not only transit staff, but also the passengers they serve every day.
Thank you to our dedicated transit operators and staff for their continued commitment to serving the community. And thank you to the public for staying alert around these brightly colored vests and helping create a safer environment for everyone.

π§ May 31 is National Dam Safety Awareness Day, and we're proud to highlight one of Manatee County's most vital assets β the Lake Manatee Dam. Since 1967, the dam is part of our drinking waters system and helps ensure we are able to supply roughly 2/3 of our county's drinking water from Lake Manatee. The dam helps store nearly 6 BILLION gallons of water.
What makes it so reliable? Intentional, engineered design. The dam features a primary concrete spillway with tainter gates for controlled releases, plus a secondary spillway with eight earthen gates at progressively higher elevations β both working together to manage reservoir levels and protect structural integrity. Our team works 365 days a year to protect our greatest resource: YOUR water.
π§ Road Work Notice π§
Starting June 1st through July 31st, there will be shoulder and turn lane work for new residential apartments on Fort Hamer Rd, between Cross Creek Pkwy and Williams Elementary Entrance.
The work will consist of drainage and turn lane additions in the area and may require intermittent lane closures.
β Please use caution, watch for crews, equipment, and allow extra time when traveling through the area.
Thank you for your patience!
May is Wildfire Awareness Month, and Manatee County Natural Resources uses prescribed burns as an important tool to help reduce the risk of dangerous wildfires throughout our area. π₯πΏ
Prescribed burns safely remove built-up vegetation that can fuel intense wildfires, helping protect homes, neighborhoods, parks and natural areas. These carefully planned burns also improve habitat health by returning nutrients to the soil, encouraging new plant growth and supporting Floridaβs native wildlife and ecosystems. By reducing excess fuel and maintaining healthy landscapes, prescribed burning helps create safer, more resilient communities for both people and wildlife.
Schoolβs out for summer β but before the backpacks get tossed in the corner, take a moment to sort through those old worksheets, notebooks, and folders! Clean paper is recyclable in Manatee County, so you can declutter the house AND help our community at the same time.
Need to drop off your recycling? No problem! Visit https://t.co/OCHtd023h1 for the list of available locations. Thank you for helping us keep our county clean and beautiful!
