Kiren Rijiju posted this video of Felipe Vergara on his Instagram, subtly passing it off as if it were him. The comments clearly show that many in his audience believe it is @KirenRijiju himself.

But the bigger issue is this: as a Union Minister, he is casually glamorising a dangerous activity that requires rigorous mental and physical training.

There is no warning, no disclaimer, and no message telling young people not to try this stunt.

This is RECKLESS!

Reacting to this, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge says, "Surya should first come out and apologise for what the central government has been doing to the students... if the Congress government has to be blamed here for three students not writing NEET, then in Delhi, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh also, people missed it, so their state governments are responsible... a total of 3 people were not able to write the NEET exam in Bangalore... One came late from Magadi Road, one came up with an old exam ticket, and the other came late from RT Nagar... at 11:00 a.m., the gates are supposed to open. At 1:30 p.m., you are supposed to report. There are biometrics and standard operating procedures. The Govt of Karnataka has issued a traffic advisory and a helpline. Show me which BJP government has done this."

He adds, "Bangalore always has a huge mobility problem. That is a known fact. That is why we have issued a traffic advisory. You should blame us if we had not issued a traffic advisory or if we had been lazing around. We have issued a traffic advisory, and there is a dedicated helpline, and thousands of people have written the exam. Yes, even one person missing out is a bad thing. It's unfortunate. EWS और सामाजिक न्याय पर सबसे बड़ा सवाल

संविधान निर्माताओं ने SC, ST और बाद में OBC आरक्षण को गरीबी दूर करने की योजना नहीं, बल्कि सदियों के सामाजिक भेदभाव, बहिष्कार और प्रतिनिधित्व की कमी को ठीक करने का माध्यम माना था। इसलिए आरक्षण का आधार सामाजिक और शैक्षणिक पिछड़ापन रखा गया, केवल आर्थिक स्थिति नहीं।

लेकिन 2019 में EWS आरक्षण आने के बाद आरक्षण की बहस का केंद्र बदलने लगा। पहली बार यह धारणा मजबूत हुई कि आरक्षण का आधार केवल आर्थिक स्थिति भी हो सकती है।

अब Indian Express की UPSC 2025 पर हुई जांच ने इस बहस को और तेज कर दिया है। जांच में सामने आया कि EWS कोटे से चयनित 104 उम्मीदवारों में कई IIT स्नातक, निजी स्कूलों में पढ़े छात्र, व्यवसायी परिवारों के बच्चे, कॉर्पोरेट क्षेत्र में काम कर चुके उम्मीदवार और महंगी कोचिंग लेने वाले अभ्यर्थी शामिल थे। वहीं दूसरी तरफ कुछ उम्मीदवार वास्तव में सिक्योरिटी गार्ड, बस कंडक्टर, कुली और दिहाड़ी मजदूर परिवारों से भी थे।

यहीं सबसे बड़ा सवाल पैदा होता है।

अगर लाखों रुपये की कोचिंग लेने वाला और सरकारी स्कूल से पढ़कर बिना कोचिंग संघर्ष करने वाला छात्र दोनों एक ही "आर्थिक रूप से कमजोर" श्रेणी में रख दिए जाएं, तो इस व्यवस्था का वास्तविक लाभार्थी कौन है?

EWS ने आरक्षण की बहस को सामाजिक न्याय, प्रतिनिधित्व और ऐतिहासिक वंचना से हटाकर केवल आय और गरीबी तक सीमित करने का काम किया है। जबकि गरीबी और सामाजिक उत्पीड़न एक जैसी चीज़ें नहीं हैं। एक गरीब सवर्ण और एक गरीब दलित आर्थिक रूप से समान हो सकते हैं, लेकिन उनके सामाजिक अवसर, नेटवर्क, प्रतिनिधित्व और ऐतिहासिक अनुभव समान नहीं होते।

इसलिए सवाल केवल EWS की पात्रता का नहीं है। सवाल यह है कि क्या सामाजिक न्याय की अवधारणा को धीरे-धीरे आर्थिक सहायता की अवधारणा से प्रतिस्थापित किया जा रहा है?

अगर सामाजिक असमानता को केवल आर्थिक असमानता बताकर समझाया जाएगा, तो आरक्षण का मूल उद्देश्य - प्रतिनिधित्व और सामाजिक न्याय - कमज़ोर होगा। और अगर गरीबों के नाम पर बनी व्यवस्था का लाभ अपेक्षाकृत संपन्न और विशेषाधिकार प्राप्त वर्गों को अधिक मिलने लगे, तो सबसे बड़ा नुकसान उसी गरीब का होगा जिसके नाम पर यह व्यवस्था बनाई गई थी।
