You can’t face everything with a defeatist mindset of “they don’t care. We’re too few to matter”. You are the customer, you own the money, and you can decide where to spend and what to speak.

Just few years ago, all those corporations were bending over backwards for the sake of a small but very loud minority of bloggers who don’t even play video games, trying to please them whenever they cry about why a character is too sexy or too average or too diverse or too white or whatever.

This is much more important than all of that. Physical games aren’t just a delivery medium, it’s a culture, it’s a sense of control and ownership, it’s a whole market for collectors and second hand.

Don’t let them suck the soul out of it in favor of downloads, like they sucked the soul out of video game conventions like E3.

Whether it’s entertainment or food or healthcare or whatever. You can’t just give up on trying to say what you want and pressure for it.

I don’t want to live in the timeline where corporate greed wins and we eventually just accept it.

If the future of PlayStation means removing physical media and taking away that choice permanently, then I’m walking away. I won’t buy the PS6. I’ll miss the exclusives. I’ll miss the games. But I don’t want to contribute to a future where companies can remove consumer choice simply because they’re big enough to do it.

I know I’m only one person. But every choice matters.

I don’t want to look back years from now and say we lost something we loved because we all assumed someone else would stand up.

If we want things to change, we have to be willing to make choices that reflect that.

More reports why Sony is trying to end physical discs:

- They want to cut out the middle man, to make more profit per sale (like remove walmart cuts etc)
- Sony thinks the fanbase will not switch platforms, they can do what they please without losing fans
- They are convinced by ignoring this issue, they fans will just accept the changes and convert to 100% digital with time.
- Sony thinks they are "too big to have commination with fans". Talking to fans has no margin benefit, so they refuse to address fans and will keep doing so

Sony said 85% of PlayStation game sales are already digital.

15% are physical.

So Sony’s solution is to make it illegal for the other 15% to exist.

Starting January 2028.

Rockstar released GTA 6 with no disc.

Just a code in a box.

You own a box.

You do not own a game.

You own an account entitlement.

If PlayStation shuts down in 20 years.

You own nothing.

Sony is closing the PS3 and PS Vita stores in July 2027.

Games you bought in 2010 will become inaccessible.

Unless you downloaded them before the cutoff.

The disc version lets you own forever.

The digital version lets you borrow until they decide otherwise.

Netflix killed the DVD business.

You still own the DVDs.

Spotify exists but vinyl records are selling better than they have in 40 years.

Sony looked at that and decided game ownership was the thing to kill.

Not licensing agreements.

Not server requirements.

The actual discs.

The physical object you can hold.

Trade. Resell. Archive.

After January 2028 none of that exists.

Just PlayStation Store and download codes at retail.

Which is not retail.
