SOMALIA MUST NEVER FORGET HOW IT WAS TREATED WHEN IT WAS DOWN 🇸🇴
Our grandparents were among the biggest believers in Pan-Africanism. They believed in African unity, solidarity, and a continent where Africans would stand together through good times and bad.
But look at how some people treat Somalis when our country struggles. The insults, the discrimination, the humiliation. Suddenly, the brotherhood our grandparents believed in seems to disappear.
If Somalia ever rises again and becomes wealthy, powerful, and independent, I don't want to hear lectures about Pan-Africanism from people who showed us no solidarity when we needed it most.
We must remember who stood with us and who looked down on us. We can cooperate with Africa without blindly trusting everyone, and we can support our neighbours without sacrificing our dignity.
Pan-Africanism cannot be a one-way street. You cannot demand solidarity from us while denying us the same respect.
Somalia must rise, but never so desperately for acceptance that it forgets the lessons of its darkest days.

Samuel L. Jackson used a Rolling Stone interview to draw a direct line between Donald Trump and the men who tormented him growing up in the segregated South.
“When I see Trump, I see the same rednecks I saw when I was growing up who called me the n-word and tried to keep me in my place,” Jackson told the outlet in the interview, published in June 2023. “That’s what the Republican Party is to me.”
Jackson, 74 at the time and raised in Tennessee, said the Republican Party’s conduct toward Trump critics mirrored the racism he faced as a child. “They’re doing it to young people, gay people,” he said. “They don’t care who you are. If you’re not them, you’re the enemy.”
The actor also described bonding with Captain Marvel co-star Brie Larson after Trump’s 2016 election win, which he said had left her shaken. He recalled telling her, “Don’t let ‘em break you. You have to be strong now.”
Asked about serving as an usher at Martin Luther King Jr.’s funeral in 1968, Jackson drew a further comparison to the unrest of that era. “The world seems to be in as hard a place as it’s always been,” he said, recalling police violence against demonstrators at the 1968 Democratic Convention. He added that such dynamics have not disappeared, only changed form: “That part has not changed. In my opinion, it’s kind of worse. They used to hide it. Now, they don’t hide it anymore!”
Jackson has repeatedly criticized Trump in the years since his presidency, including remarks in 2019 accusing him of “ruining the planet.”

According to reports based on the Controller of Budget’s figures, Mandera spent approximately KSh 4.07 billion on development in FY 2024/2025, ranking fourth nationally in actual development expenditure.
The people of Mandera deserve a clear breakdown of how these funds were spent, which projects were completed, which remain unfinished, and what tangible benefits residents have received.
New promises are welcome, but accountability for previous allocations must come first. Mandera residents deserve to see development on the ground, not just billions announced in speeches.

A historic former church in Utica, New York, has found a new purpose as a mosque after decades of Christian worship. Originally built in the 19th century, the Central United Methodist Church eventually closed following a decline in its congregation. By 2006, the building had become city property after being left vacant. In 2008, the Bosnian Islamic Association of Utica purchased the former church, giving the deteriorating historic structure a new future as a place of Muslim worship. The building is located at 306 Court Street, near Utica City Hall.
The transformation was driven by Utica’s growing Bosnian Muslim community, many of whom had arrived in the United States as refugees fleeing the conflict in Bosnia during the 1990s. Rather than demolishing the abandoned structure, the community worked to restore it through donations, local support and volunteer efforts. Renovations included repairing the building and adapting its exterior and tower to reflect its new role as a mosque. The project preserved a historic property while creating a much-needed religious and community space for Muslim families.
The mosque, known as the Bosnian Islamic Association of Utica, has since become an important gathering place for worshippers from different backgrounds. It also reflects Utica’s broader history as a welcoming home for refugees and immigrants from around the world. The building’s transformation demonstrates how historic places can be preserved and given a new purpose while continuing to serve the spiritual needs of a changing community. Rather than allowing the structure to fall into ruin, local residents helped give it a new chapter in the city’s religious and cultural history.
