doctor’s duty is to treat patients, not to tolerate abuse and intimidation. When attendants aggressively confront a doctor and start filming her, walking away from an escalating situation is not ego. It is self-defence.

You cannot expect doctors to work under fear of assault and then lecture them about their duty when they try to protect themselves.

Patient safety matters. But doctor’s safety is a prerequisite for that.

Headline "13 year wait for surgery" suggests the child died due to delay in treatment by Doctors.

But the rest of the article gives clear explanation by the doctors that initially the surgery was though to be possible and planned. But later was deemed inoperable.

No parent would ever accept the explanation that a surgery is impossible for their young child. Denial is their default state of mind. It's understandable. But what I find abhorrent is the perverse intention to milk this situation to make sensational headlines to mailgn an institution.

Not everything in medicine is black and white. It's mostly a sea of grays. Complex medical decisions affect the doctors as much as it affects the patients and their families. Any journalist with a little bit of medical knowledge would have known it better not to sensationalise this delicate issue on a national newspaper.

1. In other countries-doctors are innocent until proven guilty of medical negligence.
2. In India-doctors are treated as guilty until the patient gets better.
If a patient suffers because of an illness or a drug side effect or adverse reaction or inoperable condition , the doctor is assumed to be guilty of medical negligence until proven innocent.

In India, doctor bashing is a political sport because doctors are considered "rich looters" since the public feel that increasing general consultation fees by 100 rupees is catastrophic...

...when this so-called health minister arrived in a ₹10000000 Range Rover along with the media to fire the CMO of a public hospital...

...all because the senior doctor who I was told is a gentleman and highly efficient, asked a patient to get a vitamin B12 injection from the outpatient day care service and not emergency services because a vitamin B12 injection was never an emergency.

If there is a species that can be considered scum of the universe, it's politicians of India who dehumanise doctors in front of the public for optics. And the joke is on us because we elect these buffoons to serve us.
