Well that explains the “1000 pip claims A DAY” headlines
The Timms PIP review consultation is up. I won’t be delving into it cos it’s my fucking birthday but quick scan shows it’s as awful as expected
You have until 28th May (which btw is only 10 weeks)

If I'd thought the ****ing scammers couldn't sink any lower - now they have now done deep fake ads with a supposed video of my wife @LaraLewington being beaten up by an 'immigrant' as he was refused entry to 'Martin Lewis' Quantum AI' investment scheme as it isn't for 'outsiders'.
We've had worried messages from friends.
Social media firms have no problem taking money to publish this offensive, fake, organised criminals attempts to rip people off!
Clearly if you see these please report them. Yet I have no faith in any of these firms to clear up this crap as they're earning too much. And the implementation of the scam ads rules in the Online Safety Act keep being delayed and delayed.
Many on Universal Credit are being bureaucratically blocked from switching bank account. I've today written to @PatMcfaddenMP to request he investigate changing what seems an unintended effect of a poorly designed system (letter here https://t.co/f0CcBdYm44)
For those in work, sometimes being told they need go into a job centre at a specified, inflexible time, to do it - often means taking time off, so isn't worth it, and uses up valuable job centre staff time. And that's just one of the blockers.
Switching can help people's finances with free cash, better accounts and easier banking, so the UC system adding friction to it, is counter productive for the economy and individuals.

We are building a Ukraine strong and powerful enough to live in security and peace. So that here, on this square, on our Independence Square, beneath our flags, on our land, our children and grandchildren will celebrate Independence Day. In peace. In calm. With confidence in the future. With respect. And with gratitude to all those who defended Ukraine in this war for Independence. To those who endured, who prevailed, who gained victory.
Such a goal is worth living for. And this is what we stand for.
Happy holiday to you, great people of a great country!
Happy Independence Day!
Glory to Ukraine!
My full support to my Labour colleagues who have been suspended over opposition to disability cuts.
Alongside nearly 50 of us, they were simply standing up for their disabled constituents and following their consciences.
Challenging policies that harm our communities, that damage Labour's support and that make a Reform government much more likely is a key role of Labour backbenchers. The Prime Minister should be listening to these voices, not punishing them.
After the suspension of myself and others last year for opposing the two-child benefit cap, I had hoped the leadership would take a different approach to backbenchers. Sadly, it isn’t yet doing so. To help stop a Reform Government, it really must do so.
“Huge swathes” of severely disabled people will be hit by the upcoming Universal Credit cuts, contrary to government claims they will be protected.
My exclusive in tomorrow’s Guardian: https://t.co/qZ8Epojzvj
We refuse to let co-production be co-opted. It is a complicated and unique process that involves the centring of Disabled voices and experiences - not as a tick box exercise, but making our experiences central to decision making.
Some food for thought this #CoProWeek2025
Meg Hillier in the chamber talks about people being 'pushed into disability benefits'.
We are not pushed into disability benefits - you cannot be coerced into being Disabled! Disability benefits are there to support us to live independent lives in the face of an ableist society.
Share & tell your MP to vote NO tonight at: https://t.co/ZXhiguEuNK
-Disabled people ALREADY make up the majority of food-bank users
-Govt figures show 150,000 more will be pushed into poverty
-Many will lose the ability to work
-The PIP fraud rate is ZERO
#WelfareReformBill
Whatever people’s views about the concessions, surely everyone can see the process here is ALL wrong?
Third Reading in eight days?
A timetable like that diminishes the role of MPs in getting this legislation right, shuts out disabled people and puts too many at risk.
Just listened to @RachaelMaskell make such a powerful, moving and heartfelt defence of the sick and disabled in the chamber.
She really is the best of us.
The bill must be postponed till genuine co-production with disabled groups can take place
@TheLabour is better than this
