Dont let go of the family at the center of yesterday's Supreme Court property tax ruling.
In 1991, Scott Pung bought a small three-bedroom home on half an acre for his wife and two children. It was their family home. When Scott died in 2004, his wife stayed there. When she died in 2008, their son and his family stayed. Same home, same family, more than two decades.
The whole time, it was their primary residence, taxed at the lower rate Michigan gives a family home. Then in 2010 an assessor decided, wrongly, that they should be taxed as if it were a second home. The family took it to court and won. The tribunal ruled they did not owe it.
The assessor's response, in her own words about the judge who ruled for the family: "I don't care what he says." She imposed the tax again. She left it off the original bill and added it later. When the family came in to pay, they brought a driver's license to prove it was their home, and paid what they actually owed.
It did not matter. Over roughly $2,242 that they did not owe and had already beaten in court, the county foreclosed. A trial court tried to give the home back over a notice failure. The county appealed to stop that. In 2018, after 27 years, the family permanently lost the home Scott Pung bought in 1991.
This is what the property tax can do. Not in theory. To a real family, over a bill that was never owed, because one official decided she did not care what the court said. And the Supreme Court said the Constitution will not make that family whole.
I reached out to the Pung family, and they gave me their blessing to share their story and this photo. My thanks to them, and my respect for the fight they carried all the way to the highest court in the land. It will help families they will never meet.
This is exactly why we are working to end the tax that made it possible.

Elon Musk built the future instead.
Love him or hate him…
Nobody has changed more industries in a single lifetime.
Payments. Cars. Energy. Space. Social Media. Communications. AI.
History won’t remember the people who said it couldn’t be done.
It will remember the people who did it anyway.
Congratulations Elon.
The first trillionaire. 🚀
Kevin O’Leary reveals the simple daily rule that made Steve Jobs and Elon Musk so successful.
If your ratio falls below 70%, “you will fail.”
Steve Jobs woke up every day with 3 things he wanted to get done.
Anything that distracted him from his goals was noise. His rule was 80% signal (getting things done) and 20% noise.
“When somebody walks in the office and says, ‘Hey, I want to talk about the golf game or the football game or the cricket game,’ you say, ‘No, I’m busy,’” O’Leary explained.
“You’re finishing your three things. And you say, ‘No, I’m busy,’ until you finish the three things.”
“Now, if you do that, as you will find, you will become immensely successful.”
“And the only guy on earth that I’ve seen that has a higher signal-to-noise ratio is Elon Musk. I’ve only met him a few times, but he is 100% signal.”
“And so he’ll walk right away out of a conversation the minute you’re wasting his time. If he’s not getting any useful information towards his three things, he’s out of there. And look at how successful both these men are.”
“So if you’re listening to this, you better understand signal versus noise. It’s the most important thing in your life because you will fail if your ratio goes below 70%.”
“And when I look at people, and you ask me, why do so many fail? Because they can’t get past 70%.”
They expected AI to expose flaws in the Bible.
Instead @Grok discovered coherence, patterns, and structure across texts written centuries apart.
Does that surprise you or confirm what you already knew? @elonmusk

I love this police 👮 officer! ❤️ 🇺🇸He is not woke and is spitting out common sense facts! 👊🏻MN Dem politicians would do well to follow his lead in their talking points! But they won’t! It doesn’t fit their agenda!
